tach swap question

Posted this in the noob section but no help so thought I might get some input here.

Have an SE cluster I'd like to swap into my GLE (both 96, both AT). However, the tach on the SE cluster appears to be pooched. Will not go above 1500 rpm. Was going to swap faces and use my tach with the SE's white face but this will require pulling the needles. My question is will I need to recalibrate the tach. Is the procedure the same as for the speedo ie: pull the needle stop and turn ccw until resistance is felt to find the calibration point?

As for pulling the needle itself - do I need to be turning the needle and lifting or just pull it off? Do I need to spin it on in the opposite direction as I re-install? Is it threaded or just compression fit.

Also, the black-faced gauges are screwed on from the front and the whites from the rear. Is this going to cause any drama?

The needles should just pull straight off.

Why mess around with the location? It should be at the stop anyway, with the car off. Just leave it where it's at, IMO.

As far as the screws,

Just to clarify - if I just pull the needle off when it's against the stop and replace it at the same spot, I shouldn't need to recalibrate - is that correct?

That's what I'm hoping for.

I wouldnt think so, when the car is off you can move the tach needle and it will just fall back to its resting point. I just replaced my speedometer. It was off by about 10km/hour, and my o/d light would flash before starting the car making my cruise control not beeing able to turn on. If I was you Id swap the whole meter, you can get one for cheap at the wreckers. I got my speedo for about $10.

Yeah, I knew changing speedo's would require a re-calibration, but wasn't sure about the tach. Local yards won't sell individual gauges - only the whole assembly. No white-faced gauges in the yards anyway, so I think my only option is to try a face swap and hope for the best and re-calibrate if I have to.
