Any advice on headlight replacement or refinishing?

My 1999's headlights are becoming yellowed and translucent, probably worsening headlight output. Any advice for refinishing-do they just need to be polished?

Are they easy to swap in and out? If so, do these EBAY headlights look like decent quality. Just looking for "oem quality"... Any other sources for good headlights?
Thanks.

If they aren't bad, you can use a plastic polish like Meguiars PlastX.

if they're getting really bad, you can wetsand them with high grit sandpaper, then use a polishing compound. Probably want a wax or sealer or something to protect against UV (if you just wetsand, they look nice, but turn yellow in a few months again)

If they are realy bad
sand them with 400 grit
then move to 800
wet sand with 1500
then move to wet 3000
then hit them with some polish
I just done 3 sets on some freightliners at work last week

i recently replaced my headlights for my 4th gen. i went to ebay and in 3 days got one piece, black headlights with corner light. came with two headlight bulbs a piece and the stock corner lights fit in the new headlights. the headlights i got look really good in my opinion. for sure better than stock plus i can see at night a ton better. lights were only about $150 with shipping. only thing is the lights do not fit as snug as stocks because the stocks are two piece making it wider than the one piece. but not to noticeable of a gap. less than a centimeter of space from corner light to fender. i highly recommend these lights tho. u can get for $200 the same lights as i described with black signal lights also

Dude, use brasso. My headlights were cloudy and what not. After I AE'd them I used some brasso and they looked brand new. As 1HotA32 mentioned they're very cheap at your local hardware store or walmart.

brasso, hit each light twice:

apply brasso to one light.
ditto on next light.
wipe & buff from first light.
ditto on next light.
repeat.

polish and wax them when you're done, and you could call them glass.

that makes 3 members recommending brasso. your call though!

I've used polishes and it really helps.

But it fades again. I've been doing it at least once a year now and clearly it's fading more quickly than it used to.

I'd consider an "upgrade" to the glass lenses from 95-96's.

I've used plexus with good results. It really works.
As degeesaman said though.... it's something you must do twice a year.
