It may or may not. I've had a Berk intake with K&N filter for over 20K miles now and I'm on my original 2002 MAF, and its the 22680-6N201 MAF. Before the Berk I had a K&N drop-in for another 30K miles.

Does it increase the risk? Yes. Does it guarantee MAF failure? No.

There are a ton of peeps who have the Berk. I am certain you can resell it but why would you want to. Perhaps your MAF went bad because the MAF went bad and not because of the intake. If you would have read how to transfer the thermistor to a 2001 MAF it is like 100$. This is a decent replacement part cost and I would think worth the risk of keeping the Berk on there now. If the MAF does fry, perhaps it will be after the same amount of miles you have on your car now and not in 2 days like you fear.

Quality time, with my "MAF" meter

I tried to clean the MAF that I just replaced with some of that cleaner that you buy at the auto parts store. Well I after I cleaned it and put it back in, it actually acted worse than before I replaced it. So,I did the smart thing and did not try to clean my new "remanufactured" one that I got from Nissan as well. I don't wanna take any chances with it even though the first one was probably just gone

My MAF went on my 2k2 lastnight and I'm planning on getting a 2k1 and transfer the IAT over to it. My only problem is that the pics on the first page are not working for me. (webfilter) I'd kina like to have some pics to refer to when I do this project, but maybe someone can reassure me that it fairly self explanatory??

^^^^^^^

When taking out the Maf from the Maf housing from your 02 you'll see the little wire sensor.

Just know that it is not wedged in so your not going to just pull it out.

You have to take some small wire clippers and cut the PLASTIC that is holding it in place. Cut it directly in the center though making sure not to cut one of the sides off. Cut it down until you get to the wire. Once that part is cut then you can pull it out. You will have to do the same thing with the 01 Maf. After you transfer the wire over you just wedge it in place and push the sides back together.

Really easy mod, so long as you take your time.

Ok sounds easy enough. I took my 2k2 MAF apart and checked it and I follow what you're saying. So the 2k1 MAF has both clips and the plastic holder for the IAT but its just not being occupied?

Thanks guys for your input and instruction. I received a used 2k1 MAF for $30 and transferred the IAT today and now the car runs perfect. The SES light is still on but I haven't reset the ECU yet so thats probably the deal there. Anyway you look at it, its a money saver!!

I have kind of a dumb question but I've wondering this for a while so I'll ask. If my second 2k1 used Maf goes out can I just reuse the IAT in another 2k1 Maf? Can I just keep transfering it from one MAF to the next?

Yes, you can, assuming the IAT is still good.

You can replace your 2k MAF with a 2K1 MAF. You can skip the IAT step.

Recheck the thermistor that you transferred from old MAF to the new and see if it is not broken or damaged otherwise. Where did you get the sensor? Was it used? Everything plugged in correctly?

dave b got me the sensor, it was a new 01 maf, i removed the wire from the old one and didnt solder, but clamped the wire pretty tight, the cars doin it again just now and i cant save it. ive restarted it pulled fuses, its starting to seem hopeless, do you think i could have already ruined a new maf? why would it be doing the same exact thing that indicated the bad MAF sensor in the first place? ive tried resetting the ecu like thirty times literally even got a stopwatch and timed myself and could not seem to get the 1st CEL in the procedure to come on when i did the "RESET the ecu procedure". turn car on wait 3sec, pump pedal 5x, wait 7sec, press and hold pedal for 10 seconds and the CEL never lights up. ill keep tryin'

thanks in advance

I believe my 2k3 MAF is bad. I have an old MAF from my 2001 max sitting in my basement, so I'm gonna try switching that wire over from my 2003 MAF and see if that works. I'll be doing this today.

Ok, I did the whole procedure of buying an 01 MAF, taking the resistor out of my 2k3 MAF, and putting it into the 01 MAF and putting it on my car. Question: In what situations do I need to reset the ECU by unhooking the battery or do the throttle re-learn procedure?

I just bought & installed a 2k1 MAF from DaveB on my 2k2. The funny thing was that I was already on my second 2k2 MAF since I had the original one warrantied through my dealer.

Installing the 2k1 MAF and removing and installing the resistor was easy. I used a utility knife to separate the metal clips holding the resistor, then used needle nose pliers to grab the resistor. Reverse the procedure when installing the resistor in the 2k1 MAF.

The car drives like new again with less hesitation and the low idle issue is almost gone (I think I need to clean my throttle body too). The CEL is off too which is great!

If you had have done a search you would have found this thread.

The pic in the 3rd post shows the maf and the thermister. Its the little bug thingy with a wire attached on each end, looks like a resistor.

Remove it and transfer to 2k1 MAF.

what maf do i have?

I have a 02 max, build date 09/01. Im pretty sure the maf is bad because i went to start it after work the other day it would start fine and run for about 5 secs, start chugging like it was running out of gas and die. It did this several times every time i tried to start it. Has never had a ses light come on or any noticible drop in performance before this. I unplugged the maf and it started and idled fine. I drove it 15 miles home at 55mph and it seemed to run ok with the maf unplugged except if i tried to accelerate to hard it would bog out. The ses light is now on im sure from the unplugged maf. I took the sensor out of the housing and am going to try cleaning it with crc. The problem is there is no numbers anywhere on the housing or on the sensor itself. It has the thermistor wire on the sensor. Is this the newer more expensive 02-03 sensor or do the 01 sensors also have this thermistor wire? Im thinking this must be some aftermarket piece of junk as i can find no numbers on it anywhere.

Don't know if anyone has had this experience with the newer reman maf's yet, but it is great. My 2002 maf fried last week. After lots of searching on these forums, i finally decided to get a 01 sensor and transfer the thermistor wire over. I went to my local napa store and had them order me a reman 01 maf sensor as that is all they can get. Well, much to my delite the one i got was identical to the one that fried and already had the thermistor wire on the sensor. All i did was pull the reman sensor out of the tube and put it in my old tube that is still in the car. Hooked it up and i cant beleive how much better this car runs! I have even gained 4 mpg and am now getting 28mpg. For 120 bucks you cant beat it. Cleared the code out of the comp and havent had a ses light come on yet.

Just replaced my MAF on my 2002 Maxima 12/01 build date for $430. Got the MAF with IAT sensor from Dave Burnette at Southpoint Nissan in Austin. Took all of 15 minutes to install.

Thermister clips in here.

Can anybody confirm this ? My Max 2002 is built in July 2001 , Can I use the 2k1 MAF directly (without bothering about moving thermistor from my old MAF to the 2k1 MAF ) ?
