I just recieved my new outside mirror (black) to replace my broken passenger mirror but my old cap cover is not broken so im looking to put the old silver cover to the new mirror. How can i do it? I searched online but couldnt find anything about it.

 

I believe the outside painted piece is just clipped into the mirror housing.

 

Here is a drawing on how to remove the mirror. Once you remove it, maybe you will see how to swap the insides.

 

You don't need to remove the glass to take the skin off.

It's literally a 45 second job. The skin is just held on by a few clips.

It's been a few years since I had to replace mine, but I'm pretty sure you can take a screwdriver wrapped in a towel to an inconspicuous edge and just pry it loose.

That was going to be my next suggestion.

 

Let me dig and see if I can find a diagram. It'll save you a lot of frustration of having to pull the glass out...

 

I went out and pried the cover off of my car. I started at the outside top corner (if you can call a rounded slope a corner). I had to use 2 screw drivers, one to pry with and the other to hold the cover out while I repositioned the first screw driver. Finally the corner snapped free and I moved the prying process towards the door.

What I learned is that the bottom edge of the cover has hooks on it, so you do not want to pry from the bottom. I was lucky in this aspect as I was prying from the top. However, I was also unlucky as one of the snaps/clips broke off on me. The cover seems to have gone back on securely in spite of the broken clip, but only time will tell.

Practice on the one that you aren't going to use so if you do break it it's not a big deal.

 

It's not necessary to remove the mirror, but I think it makes the job a lot easier and you won't have to worry about breaking any of the clips off. Pry the mirror off as shown in the diagram and you'll have access to the clips that hold the cover on.

 

I would have to vote for this as the preferred method.

 

one of these days i will try to install my new mirror.... so where can i find any diagram without mirror removing? its always good to have 2 choises and 2 diagrams...

 

me and my friend we did it today.... it was kinda easy and a little tricky how to get off the cover. Also we had to take unbolt the door panel so we can put the wire.
