I believe that the tube is

3.25" in diameter. I took a ruler to the thing, and it came up as 3 1/4" .... That's a tight fit though, so I'd assume the reason people use a 3.5" is for the little ring & just a little bit extra give when putting it in. I haven't drilled the hole yet, and am still using the intake attached to the MAF. The place I went to for it wanted something like $18 Canadian (like $12 US) + another $20 for some kind of adapter for it.

Other than that, a socket wrench set, and acouple of screwdrivers and you should be good to go.

the tube is 3" and you need to cut a 3.5" hole...this is because the tubing enters the wheel well at an angle...the only tools you'll need is the hole saw and the usual tools one would have in a toolbox...good luck..

I borrowed a friend's 3" hole saw to install mine and two other CAI's for local Max owners. It worked o.k., except there is not enough room to install the black rubber hole liner that TPR includes in the kit. You don't really need it because the tube doesn't move around.

FYI, with the hole saw I borrowed, I needed a 1/2" drill, the chuck on a 3/8" drill was too small.

i hope you sprayed some clear silicone or sealant on the bare metal then...moisture = rust in the long run...

Cutting hole for CAI

Whan Dallas and our shop foreman did mine, they used a plasma cutter. Took about 20 sec. I couldn't look, had to walk away. It worked well, smoothed it out with a dremel tool. If you don't want to mess with it, find some one with one of these bad boys.

Buy the hole saw at Sears Hardware, cost me like $16 for the 3 1/4" one, make sure you have a drill with a 1/2 chuck cause it dont fit into the standard 3/8 drill. Takes literally 5 sec to make the hole. goodluck!
