Boost controller question.

I have been wondering this lately and figured I would just ask and end the curiosity.

When your running a turbo with a boost controller, what is the proces of turning up the boost? I know most of them is a **** kind of idea and you just put it at let s say 9psi or whatever you want, but when upping it do you have to do anything special.

I dont mean engine changes like internals to handle the boost but can you change it while driving? Do you have to put it in nuetral? shut off the car? restart the engine? reconfigure the boost controller?

Just curious if it is something you can do while waiting at a stoplight then go again.

Just go into the configuration screen and increase the boost ceiling (so you won't go over that amount). You can do it anytime... driving, parked, neutral, reverse, dead on side of the road, etc. as long as the battery has juice.

manual boost controller you turn a ****. Electronic boost controller is a bit different but works the same. You can do it anytime. Most electronic boost controllers have different settings you cause use for High boost and Low boost.

Like Matthel said, there are two types. The manual type (typically) are ***** that need to be turned. The electronic ones use a stepper motor or solenoid to relieve pressure from your vacuum/boost line to control your boost level more precisely. To vary boost you can even use a vacuum tee to increase boost (though I don't recommend it)

Getting back to your original question, the electronic ones and mechanical (manual) ones that have a high/low boost switch can be switched on the fly. I have done this before ... it's like a shot of nitrous if you go from 5 psi to 11 psi! That can be a jump from 260 to 370 HP!

Hehe ... now I am too lazy to switch and leave it on high anyay
