Follow-up - cold start rattling noise fixed!

Just want to follow up the noise I had from the timing chain cover. Here is the original thread.

https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...hreadid=168323

Anyways, when Kevin first looked at the car, the car was warm and the we didnt hear any rattling noise. Last Nor Cal Maxima meet, I had a chance to have Kevin to look at it again. This time, we heard the noise and he noticed that the tensioner pulley adjuster was vibrating. He put his finger on there, the noise went away.

This past weekend, we took off the tensioner and idler pulleys. He noticed that one of the bolts that hold the tension adjuster plate was loose. After tightening that bolt, the noise went away. problem solved~

sorry Kevin - we have to reschedule another time for CAI and thanks for fixing the problem.

Sweet, glad to hear you got it fixed. Looks like it was related to the tensioner\idler pulley, like on BlackCat's car.

About the CAI, read my thread about my nightmare.

Kevin : I prolly do the shopping this weekend and hopefully they will have the gearwrench on sale this time. good you have many handy tools...other wise, it will be impossible to take of that nut on the tensioner pulley. BTW, what's the name of that wrench we used to take off the tensioner pulley nut?

It was just a loose bolt....I came up with a lot of things before: the pulleys, the timing chain rattling, the blower grinding, etc. etc. Turned out it was minor. Lcuky me

Blackcat needs a blower rebuild.....I think that's where the noise was coming from, even though our symptsoms were similar.

sorry to hear about ur blown MAF.....someone in the 5th gen forum provided the part no. in a post quite a while ago. The cost is about 60 dollars.

Oh yeah, I forgot he figured out it was the blower and not the tensioner pulley. Man, I've been out of touch recently.

About the MAF, that's a lot less than I was expecting! I thought I read it was something like $250. If it's only $60, why are people so angry when their's dies? I'll search for that post, thanks for the information.

I searched and found Max_Gator's post with the MAF part number 22680-2y001. I don't know if this is just for the sensor or the entire MAF assembly. He says he got the entire assembly for around $100.
