2002+ Fuel systems, my knowlege and yours

Hey guy's I would like to make this post "the informative post on 2002+ fuel systems". Let's try to share our knowledge on how the 2002+ fuel sytem works and how we work with it.

Let's begin, 2002 + maxima's do not have a fuel return line ( just like the new mustangs) and the system runs at 52 PSI stock. Now back when I use to speak to SR20 (Matt) he told me I would need a Vortech T-rex booster pump. This of course raises the fuel pressure and allows the fuel lines to go through a loop(which is needed becuase of the lack of a fuel return line). Heres is a diagram of how the fuel system needs to be done for a bosoted 2002-2003 maxima http://www.poweredbynissan.com/image...x/diagram1.jpg . That link is compliments of SR20 (thanks Matt).

Now a Fuel pressure regulator is also needed (FPR, AKA FMU). This of course regulates the amount of fuel going into the motor. These typicaly work on a particular fuel ratio (IE 10:1). It reacts to the amount of vacume in the motor. When vacume increases the FPR reacts by adding more fuel into the motor. The vacume changes by the amount of air traveling into the motor. The more PSI of air going into the motor the more vacume and the more gas. Given the correct fuel ratio the car will perform properly.

Now, I have a few questions with the above stated. I am in the market for a vorecth T-rex booster pump. There are 7 differnt pumps to chose from. The bottom of this page has the 7 models to choose from http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/...ries/fuel.html . I beleive the 98+ mustang one is the model I need P/N 8F101-260: Fuel Pump, 255 LPH, In-Tank, Fits 1998-2001 Mustang Does anyone know if this is the correct pump or not? I just want to make 100% sure here before ordering.

Now for a nice FPR unit.. I am looking for peoples sugestions on this. It seems the vortech FPR is the most popular in this industry and I am leaning towards it. Does anyone else here suggest a differnt FPR?

Let's start with this, feel free to correct any errors I may have made have said and feel free to add to this thread.

I intend to follow this post up with part numbers, install tips and of course pics. No longer will the 2002 fuel system be a secret

The in-tank fuel pump can be replaced by a GSS342 Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump. There is a writeup on how to do this by Stikya on the 5th gen forum. Now this was done for a 2000-2001, but I cant see how they changed the fuel pump at all. If you can gaurantee it hasnt been changed, the best option to do is just to get the Walbro.

It only has to have some plastic clips shaved off but other than that, it is a straight up replacement with NO problems.

E, I was thinking, cant you just take the in tank FPR off the system and just mekr it a return dump line in the tank, and then put an adjustable FPR in the enging compartment on the line that used to go to the in tank FPR. After all it is a retutn style system just that the FPR is in the tank all you would hbe doing is changing the location of the FPR.

I bet your idea would work but in the case of fuel systems I don't want to be the first to try it Do you know which t-rex fuel pump I should get Matt? I remember on AIM you said the real high flow one, any chance you could point me to which one that is? Thanks
