Auto Gone

I just noticed today when I came to a stop sign. I took off and I wasnt going like it usually does. It started out in 2nd. Then I waited until I got home before I start messing with it. So I get home and try to manually put it in 1st. Nothing. It was like the brakes were on. So I park it and go inside. Later on I come out and was going to move the car, and NO REVERSE either. Well I ended up getting a new tranny. 97 auto tranny 60k miles, 6 month warrenty, 450 shipped to the shop. I found all the stuff for the 5spd swap for $1000 bucks, but I dont have anybody to do it. I wonder if the VB might have had something to do with this? Anyway I should have it fixed in the next couple of days.

Sorry to hear about that, mine went out on me last month after about 2-3 weeks from the SC install. I assumed it was already on its way out at 130K miles. I installed the Stage 2 VB from Jeff myself and it was pretty firm but it seemed like the tranny still couldn't handle the SC. I had the same exact problem before I got my tranny rebuilt with a bigger torque converter, no 1st, start off in 2nd, and no reverse. I wanted to do the manual conversion but lack of funds and parts kept me from following through, also I didn't really expect my tranny to go out this early. So I went with the rebuild since I need the car back right away and now everything seems perfect, maybe its just been so long since I've driven my car with a like new tranny, but my car never hits the rev limiter and the shifts are very firm all throughout the gears. I'm pieceing up parts right now for the conversion but not in any rush to go through with it.

Yeh I have to have my car back as soon as I can. This is why I chose this route. I plan on swapping. I didnt know Hal was so close to me. I will put the new auto in and do the swap in a couple of months hopefully. My car was all the time hitting the rev limiter and sometimes I would have to let off the gas for it to shift right. So I kinda expected the blowout. Only took less than a month.

you will love it....I sat in Kevin's 5spd plus 2.87 pulley. It is a different world, esp from dead stop.

Your right, maybe I'm not looking hard enough because the funds are still low right now since SC and tranny rebuild are still being paid off. Soon as my credit card balances get close to the $0 mark, I'll start the die-hard hunt for the conversion parts. Well, hope your new tranny treats you better than the first, mine did, but hopefully it lasts at least long enough till the bills are paid.

Since the new tranny went in, I haven't boosted as much as before, only when it was necessary, like on the highway against good competition. I used to have a heavy foot when the SC went in, now I'm pretty laid back and I just play with the Greddy Type-S blow-off valve at stoplights in neutral and whenever I'm around 4K rpms in D.

Yea, with the right amount of throttle around the 3k-4k rpm range it can hiss, though I can't wait till Spring/Summer so I can have the windows down to hear it better. But anyway, yea we're using this thread like its a chat room. Everything we're saying is useful though so its not like we're post whoring.

Good luck, I'm trying to fight the boost addiction, and the times when I tell myself no boosting, someone is always trying to call me out on the highway.

that means you have to be gentle with her....do not push too hard. open her throttle a little bit at a time and see how she response.

so you are gathering parts from now on??? you will have plenty of time and watch the groupdeal forum carefully. good luck
