custom turbo

I haven't visited this site in a very long time - actually since around the time nigel first got his turbo setup on. I was always interested in turboing my maxima but i didnt want to spend around $4k for the kit. I got a 300zx tt and called it a day. Since then my Z blew up and I have been missing such a fast car for all this time. I want to turbocharge the maxima but I dont want to spend $4k on it - I need to save up for my Z's rebuild. I don't know everything about the VQ engine so I want to ask you guys a few things (some which might sound idiotic).

Could i use a turbo from the Z and one of its side-mounts? Where would you have a custom exhaust manifold made (like for a turbo), and how much would it be appoximatly? Besides piping, IC, turbo, and gauges do i need anything else for the car? I'm assuming i need some type of a/f controller if not an aftermarket ecu? Sorry for all the questions but I could not see myself paying for a kit anytime within the next 5 years...

The piping isnt that much really, as long as you get mild or aluminized steel, you can do it for about $400. What adds up is the little stuff...

turbo and wastegate
Piping
FMU ( fuel Management Unit )
IC
Muffler

but then there is:
silicone connectors: ridiculously expensive, like 100 to 150
clamps: if you use tbolt, like 60 or 70 bucks, possibly more
oil lines/cooling lines: 120
if you want a new cat: 100 or use straight pipe...
BOV: 200

im sure im forgeting some of the stuff...

oh yeah, lots of time...
