PS line install (for SC)
PS line install (for SC)
Got around to installing my boost guage and PS lines + cooler today in preperation for next weekends SC install.
Couldn't install the FMU, because I realized that I had nowhere to mount the darn thing until I took the intake off.
I found the PS lines to be a lot easier that I've heard on here. My biggest problem was not realizing that DEXTRON III is ATF fluid, and looking it two different stores for DEXTRON III PS fluid...I figured it out eventually.
I assume everyone does this when installing the new lines, but I found it made life a LOT easier to take the PS resivour off its mount to access both the line on the bottom of the tank and the one under it. Made the job cake.
Finished the whole thing in about 2 hours (Boost guage, PS lines and anti-theft horn).
Downside of doing the PS lines early? The coolant tank won't go back to its stock location (the lines are in the way), so I had to bungee it in for the week.

Oh, and my boost guage monitors my vaccum just great!

No kidding...I've been looking at all these parts (SC, clutch, oil cooler, etc) sitting in my living room for close to a month...I've been going nuts!

once you decide to install the blower.

Hook up the FMU, theres space to stuff all that stuff until you can mount it properly. Trust me it will knock about 1.5-2.5 hours off the actual install. Also if you have a Strong impact wrench remove the stock UDP it will make the complete install a whole lot easier

I want to install the FMU in an accessable location, and I don't have room with the intake on there:

Crank pully off? Why? Just for extra space?

I already have an aftermarket FPR, so all the lines are right there. I don't need to the the aux fuel pump or electrical work, because I already have a walbro installed.

But there's not need to take it off right? I have an issue with my PS pump (I can't adjust the tensioner), so changing the PS belt is a royal pain...I'd like to avoid it at all costs.

Have to remove the engine to adjust it easily.

I would like to find the guy who designed that. You either need to be a realll small Japanese person or a leprechaun just to get at it. Even after loosening the pulley it still won't move.

I just put a new PS belt on, and was able to do it with a half-inch shorter than stock belt and a big screwdriver!
When I'm installing a new clutch in a few weeks I'm going to lower the engine a few inches and replace the tension assembly on the PS pump. I can't imagine there's a way to do that with the engine in the "correct" location.

I was only giving you the tip but little that I knew you had a PS issue. Dont worry about it then, your just going to have to really take your time lowering that oil return plate slowly onto the engine.
I did

The 99 PS hard lines go out in front of the radiator, but there's just a rubber hose going in about a 3" loop...no real cooler to speak of. I guess I assumed there was some kind of cooler on other 4th gens...
