Alignment Problems !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alignment Problems !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I took of my supercharger. I used a spacer in between the pulley and the s/c it is 1.4 mm wide. I still have the same problem!!! My belt just keeps jumping of the alternator away from the engine!!. Upon further inspection it appears that the belt is becoming misaligned from the idler pulley!! It looks like it is at a angle, as if the pulley isnt tigtened all the way. (it is tight, it has no play). Am I supposed to put a washer in between the pulley and the plate?? I have a washer between the bolt and the pulley right now...
If it helps any:
Distance from edge of S/C bracket to edge of S/C pulley is 7.07mm (0.275"). I was careful to measure out the exact distance on my 3.6" pulley before I took it off. My belt after 1.5 years of use is "perfect" without virtually any cracking and no abnormal wear on either surface of he belt.
Maybe this should be part of the FAQ?

so after you added a washer, the belt is jumping to the other direction now?
It doesnt matter where it run on the idler pulley. In fact, idler pulley does not cause belt alignment problem, it tells you if you have such problem. I have a washer between the plate and idler pulley, because I want my belt to run close to the center of the pulley.
let's try this:
match the section of the belt on the idler pulley to that on the tensioner pulley. algined belt should have perfect match. IMO, off by a rib is still ok.

Hi there-
I really appreciate all the help you and everyone else has given me on this issue...

Actually it was still coming off the same side it was before
But there is the possibility I didnt have it on all the way when i started it the first time
, because I took the pulley off flipped it around and retightend everything. I ran the motor for awhile. Drove it for awhile maybe 10 minutes. Belt didnt come off!!!!When I took the supercharger off tonight I brought the plate to work and ground A LOT more off it. It is still rubbing!! there was a decent amount of shavings , but there didnt seem to be any wear on the belt. I will just keep my eye on it.
Now that my sc pulley is moved closer to the engine everything looks lined up, but I still have one concern.. It seems like the belt is trying to come off at the idler pulley?? I know you said it doesnt matter where it rides on the pulley but it doesnt look good
It seems as if the belt angles out towards the idler pulley from the adjacent pulleys/??? I think im going to do like you did and put a washer on the inside of it so it will be close to the middle. What about the asp pulley? That seems to be a popular choice...BTW-
The car is so fast it scares me! Even though I haven't tuned anything yet. I'm not getting any lean codes. So I am safe, right? I think 5 th gear pulls as hard as 3rd gear used to. LS1 here I come!! Tomorrow night I am planning on installing all my guages, and i still need to put my colder plugs in! The gauges will be a learning experience. Didnt someone have a how to on gauge installs on there site???
no problem! good to hear it is ok now.
about grinding the plate. I have a picture here of my plate that Kevin ground down. it is still rubbing against the belt. but you dont want to overdoing it and damange the integrity of the peg.

it doesnt always give you a lean code....I was running super lean, but my car never throw a code.

I've got 3 washers evenly spread around and pushing out the blower slightly away from the mounting plate. My belt is centered right in the middle of the idler pulley when I look down. Is your belt like that right now?

That pic turned out really well. As you can see I have a very large washer in between the sc and pulley. There was barely enough clearance to get the 10mm in there. The belt on The tensioner pulley and idler pulley are lined up perfect now.
