Backing up engine
Backing up engine
I have a 95 Maxima 5 spd and Im leaning towards buying a used supercharger (stillen) from a friends friend.... Any tips? take it to a mechanic?
Anyways back to my real question... I have 121 thou. miles on it (eeek i no alot) but its bone stock and i was wondering if i need to add some modz onto it to support it? how much psi to have it on? is there a way I can get like a turbo timer for a sc where i can adjust and minitor the boost? Can i install it myself? or professionally? Do i need to get my tranny patched up? Gimme some tips guys before i blow my engine.. Oh i plan to rebuild my long block in a year or two... or do i need too? lol sorry for the 20 questions but i need answers from pro's on the maxima forum.
thanks for your time guys

you can do an engine compression test before your put in the blower.
the stock pulley has 6 psi
you dont need a turbo timer because SC does not generate as much heat has the turbo. You the only way to adjust boost on SC is to change the pulley.
DIY is possible....do you consider yoursefl mechanical inclined?
to avoid damage your engine....you need to monitor air fuel and EGT very closely. a in-dash fuel pressure gauge is a must.

How do i do a engine compression test? And i consider myself sorta mechanically inclined.. I want to get better.. and learn more.. And whats a DIY? I plan on changing my stock pulleys to some Ultra S Underdrive Pulley from Custom Maxima... I like the idea of increasing my HP. I wqas also looking @ getting a Greddy BOV. Do you know where i can get the guages and which ones do i need and can u tell me how to monitor them,. what it should/shouldn't be please? thanks for your help
NO Don't get a UDP if you get a sc because it'll be underspinning the blower. And you'll get a lot less power then you will normally get with whatever pulley you decide to get. You can buy gauges from Summitracing, ebay, jeg's..etc.. I wouldn't get the Greddy bov since they are prone to leak. Either get the Blitz, or HKS. I personally love the HKS.. Hey but if you need a Blitz BOV I have one F/S

DIY = do it yourself

the pulley I am talking about is the supercharger pulley.
two gauges that you must get are EGT (exhaust gas temperature) and fuel pressure gauge. Boost gauge is optional for SC peeps (because you will never overboost with your SC)
then you have to decided what format of units you want to have for your gauges. most peeps here have F for EGT and PSI for fuel pressure gauge. They are also available in Celcius and kPa(metric unit for pressure). I suggest to go with the first combo.
now what brand comes next....I think this is just based on your own personal preference. go to www.gruppe-s.com for some pictures.
how hard are the guages to install? And my plastic trim (where the pods go) are not black... would there be a way to match the color and paint the pod holder or should i just keep it black? or maybe i can paint it a matching color. lol iono

Fuel pressure, boost, temp gauges are easy.
I leave the pods unpainted and wires everywhere because I dont really care about the look. it's up to you....imo, function over fashion.
