For those of you thinking about being boosted...

Maxspeedse gave me an idea...

If your thinking about boosting your maxima, here is a list of somethings to consider...

#1 STOP buying ANYTHING that is not needed for a turbo or a supercharger.. so NO rims, bodykit, stereo, neon etc.. why spend thousands of dollars on this stuff.. you'll get boost faster without it.

#2 Have a plan.. like WHO is installing it and how long the install will take..

#3 Set money aside.. you need to spend about $1000 on other items.. trust me you will.. smaller pulley for the SC, boost controller, FMU, SAFC, etc...

#4 Get a beater car. This is VERY important.. take it from someone who had to work on there car till 2 AM so I could drive to work the next morning

#5 do a little research before you buy, have an idea of what your going to end up with.

#6 Have a GOAL... this is VERY important.. if you have NO goal what are you trying to do??

#7 Join AAA or upgrade to get the BEST towing deal they offer ( thanks )

I may add a few and who knows maybe this is a dumb idea, but these are some of the things I have learned in 3 months.

While I agree with most of what you said, I think this is way extreme. Yes, its always nice to have two cars at your disposal, but its far from a necessity to have a beater.

I don't think it's that extreme. The SC belt went on me twice and if I wasn't lucky enough to have cars I could borrow on short notice, i would have been screwed. Plus the stress of having to rush work on the car to get it drivable may cause you to miss something important.

Having a second car is a good idea...but its not "VERY important". If you can get one, great. If not, you shouldn't be concerned.

to the AAA idea.

I agree with the beater thing... I put 40k on my CRX and 20k on my Hyundai in exactly 2 years. (Tommorrow would have been the expiration of the reggie had I not spent all morning @ DMV) In that time, I have put about 9k on the Max.

#1 and #3 are the same thing. Summed up: make sure you can afford the SC/Turbo

#2 Kind of common sense but yeah you're right. If you are doing it yourself, do all the reading you can. Ask all the question you can think of. Make sure you have all the tools, etc. you need. If you are taking it to a shop, make sure you do your homework and find a good shop and line up an appointment.

#4 You don't necessarily need to purchase a second car but being able to borrow one is important.

#5 Common sense but true. Read and ask questions until you're blue in the face.

#6 I don't really understand what you mean. The goal is to have an SC or turbo. ?

#7 I have never had any trouble while driving which left me stranded.

Some I would like to add:

Even if there is only a 10% chance you want to go boosted at anytime in the future, do not spend money on things that are not compatable with an SC/Turbo. Ex.: Any kind of intake, modified ECU, etc. Trust me.

Try to think of anything that you might want to upgrade later so you can do it as you install it. Smaller pulley? Special belt? Aluminum pulley? Painted/polished blower/pipes? While it is not the end of the world to do later, you will save yourself a Saturday afternoon.

There are a bunch more, but they are all common sense stuff. Ex. Shop for best price, make car borrowing arangments, take inventory before you start, etc., etc., etc.

I think #6 is the best. It determines if you're going to need a beater and if you dont know what kind of setup you want, you dont need a f/i car. "I wanna go faster than everyone else" is not a credible goal.

BTW, what is the biggest turbo anyone has run with a daily-driven maxima?

For example...

Do you want 230 WHP or do you want 300 WHP?

Do you wanna run fast 1/4 times or have more HP?

Is this just an extra item your tossing on for the show circuit?

Hope that helps..

Make any sense?
