compression test and running lean

I finally got around to replacing my stock plugs...
The platinum plugs that were in there were a little whitish/grey, indicating a lean condition, they were all about the same color.

I am using an 8:1 FMU, and have an safc, but I STILL havent had it tuned.

The highest my EGT has ever been was 790 centigrade.

My compression test (done while the engine was slightly warm - not sure if it matters) yeiled around 160 in all cylinders.

Thoughts?

Not sure what help I can be since I don't own a max anymore but from reading other peoples results, stock compression seems to be around 170 so all 6 cylinders at 160 is fine. That shouldn't determine whether you'd be running lean or rich. If you've installed a SAFC, it's best to go dyno and tune it on there so you KNOW what you're running for A/F.
Usually running lean wouldn't yield cooler EGT so if your EGT are low compared to other Max's, it's probably that you're running rich. (fuel is basically a coolant)
Hope this helps a little... I would dyno tune. DON'T butt dyna an AFC.

I just don't understand why your's and Bags compression numbers are around 160 and mine were all around 185, which is "normal".

from factory is 180lbs, minumum is 142lbs, no more than 14lbs differential between cylinders.

You need to do the compression after the engine has reached normal operating temps. Doing while warm or cold is wrong cause the engine is not at normal operating temp and it can affect the test.

I've done both compression test hot and cold. Yield about the same results (+/- 2psi).

160psi is lower than normal, but still within the acceptable range. Better than 100psi!

sounds like a good reason to start at 10 PSI
