SC guys (mainly V1): More power and an Eaton roots sound...belts DO make a difference
Many of you have seen my threads about me b!tching about my idler pulley and shredded belt. Well, the belt I had was a razor thin cheapo belt. Completely shredded off within a few thousand miles of having the supercharger on my car. It has today been replaced with a Dayco Poly-Cog, #5060695. This belt is at least 3x thicker then my old shredded belt, with thick blocks that hug the ribs on the pullies. The guy at AutoZone said this is the next best belt to the Goodyear Gatorback.
Sound Difference: Right off the bat, I noticed that with this belt, my supercharger now emits a different tone. Not at idle, but when revving or under a torque load. It emits a Ghostly howl that sounds VERY similer to the SVT Cobra and SVT Lightnings Eaton Roots Type blowers. Well I am in love. I don't know if this is coming from the belt itself, or if it's causing the compressor to make this noise, but I love it. At WOT there is a high pitched whine that hints at the Eaton Roots howl, which really adds flavor to the overall sound. This all may sound corny but I am very happy with this.
Power Difference: I noticed right after the install, that my car revved faster and seemed to accelerate quicker. But to insure that it wasn't just my untuned butt dyno, I drove spiritedly every now and then today. I spin into second gear more on the 1-2 shift, and the RPMs rise faster in general throughout the power band. The car is quicker with a slight increased feeling in torque. I did a downshift into second @42mph, and noticed more tire spinnage, more "pushed back in your seat" feeling, and the RPMs climbing faster.
I am positive i've gained power, and it makes sense. A rubber band like belt with a shredded rib vs. a thick and sturdy Poly-Cog with all ribs tightened up to spec....just like GTR_Rider had suspected I believe I've gained back boost pressure. My car is quicker then ever before.
So people, don't **** out on your belts. You could be missing an awesome sound, and more HP/TQ. BTW, the Dayco Poly-Cog was only $29.99.
Now, to tackle the rich fuel issue...

I might be due for belt change soon...
Does your belt look like they have many notches that run 90 degrees across the ribs? I may have offered a Dayco belt a while ago but I turned it down because the Vortech document said to stay with the solid rib-type belt.
