Start up problem

As some of you know I now have a brand new engine.
But it hick ups sometime when I start it up.
Sometimes it will not start at all and I end up having to pull the fuse for the Walbro Fuel pump, crank it up, it starts then dies (of course the fuse is out) then put the fuse back in and it starts right up like a champ.

Any ideas what my be causing this?
Anyone have this problem?

Wow. What made you think to do that? Was the engine flooding?

Yes. You can smell the fuel.

If it only happens when the engine is hot, then maybe it's a bad engine temp sensor. If it happens when the engine is cold or hot, then maybe a leaky or stuck open injector.

hmm.... my walbro died on me gabe.... i was experiencing that problem occasionally... fp would shoot up ridiculously high -> 80 psi while starting, so i had to crank it a few times....

Also, check your starter... I know we've cranked the hell outta that thing

Wouldn't that indicate a problem with the fpr rather than the fuel pump?

i don't think so, it works fine on the oem pump.... also, since there is no vacuum to regulate the fuel via the fpr until after the car has started cranking, i don' thtink the fpr is related

If there is no vacuum, then a normally working fpr provides 43 psi of fuel pressure (for a stock system). This is why the fuel pressure is higher at WOT when there is little or no vacuum. After the car is started, vacuum builds up and the fpr adjusts the fuel pressure downward to 34 psi.

The fact that it works fine with the oem pump may just mean that the oem pump can't generate more than about 43 psi.
