Supercharged/Turbocharged The increase in air/fuel pressure above atmospheric pressure in the intake system caused by the action of a supercharger or turbocharger attached to an engine.

At what boost pressure do you have to start worrying about the head gasket?

At what boost pressure do you have to start worrying about the head gasket?

I've got a 3" pulley ordered, so with a V1 blower that'll give me, what, about 11 psi?

So at what boost pressure do you have to worry about head gaskets blowing?

Hard to say, but at 12+psi you want to start worrying, not saying at 12-13psi its going to blow, but thats the point you want to either be pro-active and change it out or end up being re-active when you do blow it.

I have th 3" Pulley and never get over 10PSI.
I usually only hit 9PSI.

But I think you're OK even if you do get lucky with the V1 and hit 11PSI. Remember - V1's blow about 1 PSI less than V2's.

Yeah, I knew that, but I'm hitting 9 psi with a 3.25" pulley, and I figured 3.125" would get me 10 and 3" would get me to 11 psi. Maybe that's wishful thinking.

Tuned properly, I would say headgasket would hold closer to 20psi than 12.

Pistons should be your first concern.. which again depends on your setup, luck and how far you want to push it.. can hold up to around ~16ish...?
Everyone will tell you 10-12.

ps. no one take what i just said and cut their boost up to 15.5 and blame me if you have problems. I do not adivse it, but have first hand seen it done with no problems arrising short term (long term, dont know)

You should be seen 10.5 PSI at least, 10 is right with that 3.125 but Mardigrasmax was looking at 10.5 with his V1 ask him and see.

I know Jay - as you know I'm also missing about 25-35hp.

Noone can explain it after a whole year - even 2 regular mechanics and 3 speed shops in the area and the entire NW Community, including Jeff92SE and mtrai760.

And the many, many posts about it over the last year....

Yeah, well, the TEst Pipe isn't my issue, however.

I had been hoping the problem was a clogged Cat, but it's not.

I'll probalby be sending the blower back to be swapped for a V2 this fall, because that is all there is left to eliminate.

at least 4 times over the last year - and again last week.

EGT's look normal, Fuel Pressure looks good, etc, etc.

The only thing is that I appear to have a vacuum leak that noone, even experienced mechanics I've known personally for years can find.

Vacuum reads 17Hg when it hsould read 20.
Boost reads 8.5-9 max when it should regularly read 10-10.5.

Even put it on the Dyno and sat on top of the car under the hood and listened for leaks under boost - nothing.

Yeah - thanks man - I just hope against hope everytime I look under my hood that I'll just go "OH!!!" - and find the problem.

Hasn't happened yet tho.

Re: At what boost pressure do you have to start worrying about the head gasket?

I was under the impression the overall build of our engine was very good. I would have thought the 400hp+ guys would have blown it to bits by now if it wasn't. I've been running the 3.00" for afew thousand miles now and it's running perfectly. Go for it, you should be fine

can you build any kind of intake pressure system? i know on my eclipse (when i had it) i was able to build an intake leak tester and i could test everything from the IC pipes to the intake, etc, it was easy since you could pressurize it without haveing the engine on/running. Also i used to use a soap/water combination to find small air leaks, surprizingly i was able to get rid of most of them on the eclipse.

just my $0.02
