Lower Compression Engine
Lower Compression Engine
Is there anyone here who has lowered the compression on their engine to 9:1 and drive the thing on a regular basis. I see nigel got lower compression pistons, but is his car running with these yet. I am in the process of getting my engine built but would like to know what it feels like to drive a maxima with lower compression when not boosting. Will the power loss be that dramatic?

right, meaning when you drive around and are not punching it and boosting. just when you are tooling around town. Yeah i know all of our roads are wide open, but still i wanna know .
For the short time that i have had the turbo, i didnt really feel any turbo lag, but I want to know if when i lower the compression will i be smackin that horsey waiting for the turbo to spool

but in his first post he said-->"but would like to know what it feels like to drive a maxima with lower compression when not boosting"
I thought maybe he meant how it would feel if not boosted, like say he was going to be driving on it for a little bit with the turbo not installed. didn't know he meant when not boosting or just cruising
I got your email Corey, give me an hour

But that's just me and the kind of driving I do. I ruined the driveability of a motorcyle I once had by moving the power way up into the high rpm range. It was a kick in the pants that 1% of the time at high rpm, but it was a dog cruising around town. So I'm wary of that now.
9:1 compression...
you'll lose around 30 HP throughout RPM powerbands.
FYI, 300zx TT with no turbo (blown, vacuum leak as usual, turbo seals bad, etc etc) has around 165 HP.
and RAMIUS83 (Errrik), did you lower the compression? if so, how?
