Supercharge OR Turbo??
Supercharge OR Turbo??
i am planning to go turbo or supercharged as soon as i can gather a bit more money, but i am stuck as to which on to do! which one has more power potential? the prices of the turbo kit with front mount and who to contact to get it( heard most of the kits suck?)? which one is going to break my auto tranny first? which one is easiest to get the most power out of for the cheapest? and what do i need to get for each before the install (safc?,ecu?,tranny cooler?,warlbo fuel pump?,bigger injectors?)i am COMPLETELY overwhelmed guys please help me!
frustrated,

If you want tons of power, the turbo kit is your best bet.. that said, your tranny will not last very long with 300fwhp, which the turbo can easily provide. You should read up a lot before buying either kit, and just know that they aren't maintence free.
Do a lot of research. For all out power, the turbo is obviously better. But there are reasons to get the SC too.
you may want to remember this though. many of the people here went from SC's to turbo's. i recently sold my sc because the performance just wasn't what i was looking for and right now i'm in the middle of custom fabbing a turbo.

I've found that the SC is a good way to get initiated into the world of boost. You learn the fundamentals of air/fuel control with a relatively easily installed and easy to operate kit. Once you start upgrading to a programmed ecu and larger injectors, larger diameter exhaust, etc. in search of more power, then it is so much easier to eventually make the jump to a turbocharger system.

That seems to be the trend. Peak hp/$ goes to the SC (especially if you buy a used kit), but power under the curve goes to the TC. The SC kit is pretty trouble free (except for the melting pulley's with the early V2 kits) and is vastly simpler to install compared to a TC with fmic.

I dont know about Matt, but he always seeks improvement in any way. Turbo has the torque he wants and most likely will be cooling it down with a nice shot of Nitrous to ump it up. I reached a level of happiness out of 10PSI. What else can I do? rip the motor and beef up the internals, cool the air some?
Craig I know you didnt take that to the heart just messing with you.
There is only so much front wheel HP you can get without horrible torque steer. I have a 300 rwhp car with limited slip diff etc. my second car.
Any way, I can only imagine adding another 100 hp to my maxima and it still being a fun car for me to drive. With a sc the power hits smooth and not hard like the turbo. With a turbo it hits hard and holds pretty well(almost) throughout the entire rpm band. I dont think i would enjoy that much hp in a front wheel drive car. However at the same time i dont want these damn WRX's and Neon RT's to start owning the road either!

why do people talk so much about torque steer.
hold the freaking wheel...just my opinion.
Drive a nice LSD rear wheel drive car with 300 whp and you will realize that you dont have to wrestle a car built for power. It will steer pull and move weight properly in all situations. Dont get me wrong i love my fwd maxima. It is my daily driver though. Even with all the suspension mods I have, I would not want to get into the twisties with a good handeling car. Nissan needs to go ahead and put RWD in the next gen. Thats the only thing lacking now. We are getting more mods available. Horsepower has increased over 60 percent in the last 10 years. However the suspension had taken a back step and torque steer is something you can get used to, but its definately not an advantage.

as far as anything performance wise with cars goes we all know RWD is much better, just that i dont think fwd is that big of a deal
Your right its not once your used to it. My N/A maxima is a red light monster. Its quick, but I do notice the difference on the turns when say i am turning a corner to jump onto an on ramp.
But like I said, I hope nissan really considers making a RWD one before long.
