Which do you think sounds better, why, and when? (idle, cruising, wot) I have heard several videos of Turbos, and IMHO nothing tops the sound of a V1 at idle. Nothing else tops the sound it makes when you give it a tiny revv up to ~1900rpm either. It's just....pure bliss. I guess part of that is the sheer loudness of it, knowing that other people know you are packing some heat under the hood.

BUT, at WOT, or pretty much anything above 2200rpm, the blower gets dead quiet. I get a jet like whine at WOT, but my engine is WAAAAAAAY quieter and less aggressive sounding then when I was n/a.

Well, what about Turbo's? From the videos i've seen (stoney mountain vid was the most recent) they seem very quiet, and of course theres nothing at idle. But I can't really judge under WOT since you'd need a very high quality camera to give true to life sound of the Turbo.

So, what is it boys? Above 2200rpm I am dissapointed with the sound, its boring. Below that I am in love. Please post in detail which you love, why, and when.


BTW, if your wondering why i'm posting this.....no reason.....no reason at all....the dark side does not beckin....I do not crave torque...I do not crave low rpm power....and I do not possibly have a hook up for a setup.

I vote the T3/T4 hybrid that's in the k-car vs supra video. That thing sounds wicked. I haven't heard a max with a turbo that sounds like that yet though.

At idle, I cannot hear my turbo. And for most applications, you cannot hear most turbos at idle. However, at WOT, anywhere past 2500 you hear a "wind-like" sound spooling up in the front of the car. And you can DEFINITELY hear it at 3600ish where I have full boost. But all in all, I HEAR the turbo while boosting, over the engine and over the loud exhaust....

Hal, I agree. Theres nothing better then driving through the neighborhood, and having the V1 screetch make peoples heads turn. Is the turbo even audible under 2000rpm?

There's a guy on my street that has an older Porsche 911. He turns his head and looks at my car every time I go by. He's thinking there's more to my car than meets the eye, I'm sure. Or else he's thinking I need to replace that water pump with the bad bearing. Someday I'll stop and see if he wants to chat.
