How do I see if my Fuel Pump is dead?

Is there a way I can test it? My car died on the freeway and there is no gas getting into the engine. When I turn the key to the on position I don't hear the pump cranking at all.
I bought the Walbro GSS342 255 lph pump about 4 or 5 months ago.

Any suggestions?

use a fuel pressure gauge.

or just pinch the fuel line from tank and see if it is pressurized...if not, your pump is not pumping fuel. it supposed to maintain a pressure even the car is turned off.

have you checked the fuse for the fuel pump?

I have a fuel pressure gauge and it is stuck on zero. I did check the fuse already and it is still intact. Any other ideas? Any other way to test the pump?

eh.....I think your test is done here. fuel pump is not pumping and no pressure in the fuel rail. unless you want to test your fuel pressure gauge, you can confirm it with a mechanical fuel pressure gauge.

Hayne's repair manual shows you how to check your fuel pump. but you need base fuel pressure.

I think your fuel pump is gone.

Either a massive fuel leak or a bad fpr can result in no fuel pressure. You would have noticed a fuel leak, so it can't be that. What kind of fpr do you have? I've never heard of an OEM fpr failing, although I suppose it could happen. The fact that you can't hear the fuel pump when you turn on the ignition pretty much points to the pump as the problem. You could try disconnecting the fuel line going into the fuel rail and connecting a hose to it so that it dumps into a gas can and have someone turn on the ignition to see if you're getting any flow. Be careful.
