Dyno Tuning??

I have done some base runs but I never had an hour session to mess with.

What are some things I need to look out for?

Here are some of my concerns..

1. What A/F ratio should I shoot for to make safe power? I can adjust my fuel pressure via fuel pressure regulator.

2. Should I bring a floopy to download the runs so I can view them later on?

3. What EGT should I not go over?

4. I have an auto so what gear should I run on the dyno.

5. Should I run race gas? or just regular 94 octane?

If I have some extra time left over, I might test out the HKS Hyperground by disconnecting it to see if it makes any difference in power.

Any other suggestions??

I haven't dyno'ed (yet), so these answers may not be right...just what I think I know.

12.5 is about a lean as most people like to go boosted or with nitrous. 14.5 or so (14.7) is good for NA.

Couldn't hurt.

3. What EGT should I not go over?
IIRC 800C is where people have started to have problems.

4. I have an auto so what gear should I run on the dyno.
Dunno, but I think I've seen 3rd used for autos before.

You should dyno with the lowest octane that you'd be using. If you always use 93, dyno with 93. If you have a AFC with more than 1 map though, you could have maps set up for different octanes.

Somone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Arg, My reply got eaten. Ok, part #2

1. Aim for 12.5 .. If you want to play it safe, go 12.0 or even 11.5, I think 12.0-12.5 should be fine though.

2. Unless you KNOW the place has e-mail there, bring a disk and make sure it works (floppies suck!)

3. Once you hit 1400F keep an eye on it. If it's rising fast and you're not near redline, stop before you break something.

4. 3rd.

5. You should be fine on 94 octane.

Tips - If you're tuning with an AFC, it'll probably take over an hour. I don't know if you'll have time for the hyper-grounds. I had 6 ohms of resistance through my ground wiring (BAD!) and I can attest to it's gains though hehehe.

Overdrive OFF .. You'll get 300-400 extra RPM out of it (normally shifts at 6100)

and lastly, if you're doing the dyno run yourself, know where your car won't shift out of 3rd gear when going WOT. It's somewhere around 50-70mph I believe but I don't remember exactly (and plus I'm canadian so I don't know MPH hehe)

Good luck

The a/f ratio is said to be good at around 12.5:1 but not necessarily. But the best thing to do is set it at 12.5:1 and then lower it to 11.5:1 and see if gives more power at 11.5:1.

OD definetely off and dyno in 3rd gear. On your auto you are going to have to wait till 70mph before you floor it on the dyno, anything less will cause the auto to downshift and the dyno plot will be off cause of the torque spike. It should fuel cut definetely at 6500 your needle might indicate 67-6800 since Nissan is known to be off on the redline end.

Bring a floppy so you can look/analyze them later.

Since your dyno tuning, dont wworry about the EGT. Just worry about the a/f ratio until you get the best HP. Then make one last run again for kicks and the whole time watch the EGT gauge. That will tell you EXACTLY where you want to be most of the time if you ever raise the shot or want to monitor it for possible problems.

Run regular 94octane unless you plan on only running race gas at the dyno as well as every other time you push the car while spraying.

Hope this helps.
