e-mailed some companies about manifold

Well guys I e-mailed the few companies I could find online about making a custom exhaust manifold for our car. I talked about the lenght of the manifold, wastegate placement, and flanges, and material used(stainless, iron, mild steel). I looked at about 500 websites and e-mailed about 20 companies. One is in dallas which is about 4 hours from me and I told them I might be able to go over there if they need my car for a donor. Lets see how it goes and see what kind of quotes I get.

are planning to have front and rear manifolds made? if so the 300zx Z31 would be a very good model to use if you haven't already considered.

Here is one quote.

Thats a cross-over pipe setup, quite a bit out side of our normal parts.
A donor car would be required, but we really don't have the space or man power to take on such a prodject at this time.
Such a setup would run around $800-$1000 for the prototype manifold and downpipe.
Production units would run around $600-$700 for the manifold and downpipe (minimum 5 part order).

Here is another.

Hi stephen,
I will need a car and the turbo to make a manifold. Aprox cost to make a manifold $650.00

Regards

Ian

nice prices...but BE VERY careful...price quotes are one thing...actual post production prices are another. you have to remember that majority of these company making manis are doing them for I4s or I6 motors not V6...thers a lot more work and once they realize that, prices might add up. Good luck!

I told the people all the circumstances and sent some pictures, so they know what they are getting into.

I have gotten a few more quotes, I think it is going to be cheaper that I thought. I had a 1000 dollar budget for this and seems like I am going to save some money.

if you make it yourself, you could do it for 200.

do you have any pictures of the heads where the manifold goes or some pictures of the manifold?

(i'm actually guessing you do since you said you sent some to those companies)
can you post some up? i want to see what the vq's design is.

Umm I just gave them a general idea, when I actually decide to do it, I will need to take off the headers and actually draw the flange or if I take it to their shop they can take it off for me.

Reducers? **** man, you can make your own, i made the 2-1 blend for my y-pipe in 15 minutes. I can guarantee you that I could do it for probably less than 200.

I just posted a thread in the 5 th gen forum, I basically asked if anyone know were I can buy a 5th gen exhaust manifold modified for turbo ? I know it can be custom made but I want to see if I can buy one from someone who already gone thrue the process, otherwise I'm going to buy Cattman headers and have some local guys to hack it and make whatever need to be done.

I can be reach at: dblea@videotron.ca

Cheers

Cattman headers are $800 dollars. I would look fro soemone locally or in a nearby city to create a manifold for you for the same price. The reverse y-pipe is just stupid.

If I still had my maxima, I would, Actually, If i still had my maxima, I would have been in the middle of doing it already, I just hope you realize If you are planning on putting the turbo in front of the motor, you are going to have to remove alot of stuff (ac stuff) and probably get a new radiator and fan assy...

However, if you are planning on mounting the turbo in the "typical" spot, I doubt you will see much gain from these manifolds over a design like hals (the only improvement will be where the front bank joins the rear bank, because that is a messy area on hals setup). But i guess we cant be sure until someone tries it. Good Luck with it man.

(I definitely support ripping out the AC stuff and sticking the turbo in front of the motor then running the DP back along the pipe that brings the rear bank forward) I made a post about it (with pics) somewhere.

oh, i just reread your old post. Were you going to run the rear banks over and under the tranny, or above the tranny? or what?
If you plan on keeping the banks separate you should totally pulse match, that would be hot!

sorry for the double post...

Why is it stupid again? It's the easiest/most cost effective method right now to run a turbo. With a properly sized turbo, you can hit full boost below 3K. You don't have to move anything except for the battery.

If you can get this manifold to actually work without any prior experience/knowledge/understanding, good for you. But don't knock a proven design.

Hopefully right before Christmas, but it may be right after the new year. I'm shooting for a $3800 price point using nice components so that way we won't have to deal with "options" and upgrades. It would be all inclusive, so the only thing needed would be gauges.

No gremlins right now, just have to check fitment and so on. I really, really don't want to deal with issues after having someone pay us a bunch of money for a kit so we're trying to triple check things.
