bracket snapped and alternator bolt ?

so the guy that i bought my kit from finally came over and took a look at my progress on the install and found out that i actually needed the hex bolt that secures the pulley to the blower. so now its time to take off the bracket AGAIN! so the guy leaves and he's going to overnight the part so i can have the install done on friday. so i go ahead and hookup the aftercooler and run all the wiring and the vacuum lines so i can slap the bracket on and be on my merry way on friday. so im taking out bolt #18 and the extension on my socket touches the part of the bracket where the idler pulley is secured. BAM! (metal on concrete sound) i look under the car and a piece of the bracket is just chillin there. so once i get the bracket off the crankcase i take a look at the bracket and that part is shattered. so now i have to order a $550 bracket for the s/c.

anyways. down to my question. which way does the alternator bolt into the bracket and what would i do if its stripped. should i run a smaller bolt and thread it into a nut next to the thermostat hose?

update, here's the website with everything else installed, bracket pic coming soon.

For you to crack a bracket, it must have been damaged already. I dont see any possible way for you to crack a bracket unless you get a crowbar and put serious pressure onto it and break it off. What a expensive project.

Your alternator bolt solution, grab the bolt and thread into the alternator from the inner engine going outborads so you can redo the threads again. Thats what I did. Then take it out and place it on the outside of the alternator where all the belts and w/out the plate are thread in there by hand and it should go in smoothly. Once you put on the plate you may need to pull or push down on your alternator to align that bolt that goes into your alternator. You can buy a new bolt @ pepboys, they have a large selection of bolts. Just take the paper with you that has the sizes. If you go .5mm too long on that bolt it will just thread all the way thru. A set of Gear wrenches will save you about 35 mins when it comes to that bolt alone.

**Update**

stillen doesnt even know their own part numbers. they sent me the wrong fittings and the wrong bolts.

i still need the hex bolt for mounting the pulley to the blower and a new 90* fitting for the oil feed line.

the new bracket looks like they reinforced the part that i snapped.

If it were me and since I got a welder, I wouldve alloy welded that sucker right back on. Shiet.. worst case re-inforce it with two small plates and weld that sucker on as well.

Ya a welder in town could probally do it for 100 - 200 dollars instead of 600 for new plate

the new bracket is reinforced and machined. i didn't want to leave anything to chance.

everything else in the kit is welded, they have real nice welds.
