have a chance to buy VQ30DET engine or parts!!!

Well I e-mailed some companies if they had an VQ30DET's around in storage and one has sent me some pictures and asking what I want from it. I want to know what everyone thinks on what I whould get from there? I definitily want the pistons and connecting rods but what else could I get from the engine. I think Tilley is the only one who has doen the swap and I just wanted to know what I could take from the RWD VQ30DET and put on my Maxima. I hope I get some responses fast!

I want the intake manifold, it takes some machine work to make it fit according to Tilly, but I would be interested in buying that to suplament your purchase. Every thing else is basically the same. Rods & pistons are what you are after.

So intake manifold, connecting rods, pistons.

Would anything else be benificial like exhaust manifold? Cams? Heads? Any other valvetrain components? Injectors? Fuel Rail? Anything else?

When I get a chance I post pictures later okay.

Since it was for a RWD car, the exhaust manifolds may not be of any use to you (except for design). The cams are probably pretty mild, but why not go ahead and the the fuel rail and injectors...

How much would you sell the pistons for and do the come with piston rings? I am not looking for thick connecting rods, I only want to push like 12-15 psi and I don't think I will need stronger ones with the lower compression.

Did you get pics and or parts? I may be interested in an oil pan if they don't want too much. Can you hook me up with these guys?

the exhaust manifolds wouldn't be a bad idea if you guys don't want the reverse y-pipe thing. my vg30et came out of a rwd car and dropped right in my 3rd gen. if the exhaust manifolds are anything like mine you have a rear manifold that goes to a crossover pipe then goes to the front manifold to the turbo. it should fit fine unless there is something sticking up from the tranny.

I'm no VQ30DET expert, but be careful with oil pans from RWD cars...depending on where the turbo is mounted and a few other factors the tap might be inconveniently positioned when you put it on the Maixma. the sump might also be at a n awkward position as well because of the Maixmas x-memeber.

No worries there. I am putting a maxima engine into a RWD car (mated to a z350 transmission). It is actually there already but I had to do some hacking on the oil pan to install the starter. The VQ30DET oil pan might make it a cleaner installation. It is hard to tell for sure as I don't have many pics of that engine.

Thanks for the pics. Yah I think the rx-7 will be cool when it's done. The Rx-7 I drive to work has 145hp where the maxima engine has 222hp. If that's not enought then I'll probably supercharge it.

I think the DET still has distributorless ignition. The wires I see in the pictures are the throttle cables and 2 vacume lines. I've yet to get a look at the engine without that stupid plastic cover over the engine. I'm also still looking for a pic of the flywheel side of the engine. The VQ's in the pathy's the starter is on the pasenger side. On the 350z it is on the driver side (maxima's its on the trans). Always more to learn I guess. (I used a pathy starter and custom cut the maxima oil pan).

Look at top picture I see the throttle cables all the way to the left. Then look at the bottom picture there is 4 lines going under the spark plug cover, are all of those vacuum lines.

no hes right its the throttle cable...it comes out the right side, snakes under the valve cover and connects to the TB(like you see in pic #1) plus you can see the little "spool" thing where the cable originates on the right side of the car which is the driver side overseas
