yes this hood is latched securely closed.
wtb: cf hood.

bottom:

mardigras, you're quick. also can't really see it in the other pic, the intake manif. gasket or whatnot blew out from under the mevi too. every charge pipe I had blew off including the IC ones behind the bumper, the IAC hose blew off off(clamped), MAF let go, etc.

cullen, you missed all this fun last night down at 11th. lets just say I put on one heck of a show

for anyone who cares: motor seems fine.. car should run later today when I get myself in the garage.

That is good it was just the manifold and not the motor. Good luck getting it all fixed.

i know i guy with a 306 mustang. he was running a wet 150 shot and the same thing happed although his intake didnt break it just blew the freeze plugs, vacume hoses and all the intake hoses apart. he thinks fuel puddled in the bottom of the maniphold and a spark got up in there and ignited it. very scary stuff

thats because you shouldnt run wet shots on 5.0 mustangs, the fuel puddles in the intake runners and BAM!

why do you think dry shots are so popular with them?

Actually, the NX kit has never had any problems with puddling in the 5.0L or 4.6L GT engines...

I have friends that run that kit every day (silly bastards) with no damage at all.

Is that coolant in the intake?

Was this a fuel puddling issue? Sorry I haven't been following too close...

This is crazy stuff dude. That sucks that you damaged some prime aftermarket parts, CF hood, MEVI, etc...

it was purely driver error closely related to nitrous (its a NX wet setup)

and yes that is coolant sitting in the busted MEVI, but it that is from the destroyed radiator thanks to shrapnel from the mevi, maf, pipes, hood etc, all which blew into my 1mo old radiator.

valves appear visually fine, and no af in the oil.. so I think the motor will be ok. cross your fingers

Oh, I was about to ask exactly how it was driver error, so that we could all learn from your mistake. But it sounds like you simply sprayed too early in a certain gear. Was that the only reason you think?

yep, split second of spray - too early. it was at 8.7psi when it blew, so def not that.

I have put 10+ bottles at 10+psi on this exact setup with no problems.

got all the junk taken care of, hood for 65$ (and I get free painting), radiator 75$, maf 30$..

Im sure it was a higher gear. 1st gear can be sprayed out of the hole without problems. Its the taller gears that you have to be careful with that don't wind out so quick...

Why is spraying in too low an rpm bad? Is that bad in a gear other than first?

I left a parking lot headed home to garage the max until it's gone. I normally NEVER show off, I pull up with the car almost idling in - in hopes to get some races haha. This was my last time the car would be out, so I figured I'd show off just once. I pulled out (with slicks) and gunned it in 1st gear - that gear is WICKED... then trouble came - 2nd gear. I let it sit, It got stuck at too low of rpm's , so the car wouldn't move and for the split second that it saw spray it created insane TQ and couldn't move. BAM.

The car gets engulfed by one giant flame (Seen from under the hood, out the rear view mirror etc). Traffic on all 4 lanes stops bc they can't see 100feet ahead bc of the smoke and I steer it over onto the sidewalk and jump and run. People run up with fire extinguishers but luckily nothing was on fire. Then the couple hour wait began for the tow truck, IN THE GHETTO in the middle of the morning.

No RPM window switch, although now I'm def a believer! haha

on a side note, Ijust picked up a new car and am getting real tempted to keep the max now haha.. SP67 is looking sooo good!
