Impatient, should I rebuild with stock internals?
Impatient, should I rebuild with stock internals?
I don't know if it's the performance shop that I'm buying from, or if it's just the manufacturer, but it's been almost 5 months since I ordered my 9:0:1 compression pistons and rods and I have heard nothing back from anybody...
I am so tempted to just rebuilding with stock internals once again just so I can have my car back on the road. Only problem is, what are the chances that I blow my engine again?
I haven't been on the boards for awhile, but let me summarize wut happened that resulted in my car having to be towed 50 miles home ....
My car - Auto '99 I30 w/ 38K miles s/c'd with 3.125 pulley V2 kit.
No less than 2 months with S/C installed, I took the car up a pretty steep hill going approximately 100 miles an hour (all safe all safe). . heard detonation but at the time I was ignorant and didn't know wut it was. Hit 127 and poof, white smoke.. . somehow the auxiliary fuel pump must not have kicked in, or shut off, or something happened. my ECU shows multiple cylinder misfire.
Lessee, things that I have bought since the car blew up. . .
Gauges - EGT, S-AFC, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure
Fuel - 255 LPH Walboro Fuel Pump
Thinking about getting an FMU as well.
Anyway, shall I rebuild with stock internals, leave the s/c, and just be more careful and monitor everything? OR?! should I just forget it and just wait indefinitely for my aftermarket pistons and rods.. . any constructive advice would be lovely.
I guess I'm wondering if I'll be safe, or end up being stranded on the side of the road .. The car. .. . is a daily driver and show car. It doesn't necessarily need to be a track car or superfast. I have like a 300 lb sound system in the trunk. I just wanna drive the damn thing again because basically i'm making payments on a 3300 lb hunk of metal that sits in my garage and i'm tired of waiting.
Thanks in advance. . .

Unless you're planning on uping the boost, ie smaller pulley and building up the tranny to support 300+whp...I'd just buy a junkyard VQ for $200-$600(no need to rebuild, it's cheaper!) and fix the fuel delivery issue.
People have been running even smaller pulleys for LONG periods of time without any problem. Your tranny is the weak point as long as your fuel system doesn't hiccup again.

They cost 1800 shipped. . .However, be prepared to wait forever.
