Blower on Maxima??

Is it possible to take a blower from a Xterra, Frontier, or a Pathfinder and put on a Maxima? I was told that there is a video of a guy that did this and it took the Maxima to like 400hp. Anyone heard of doing this?

Craig Mack put an Eaton blower on his Maxima, so I suppose you could do the same with the Nissan roots blower.

Do you know the specs of his car after that install?

No. He wrecked it pretty soon after the install, while he was still working the bugs out of it.

I think it might be possible. Look for the spec.s of the blower, but I think the blower on the Xterra is to much for a V6. Craig Mack used a M90 blower which is very common on Ebay and is applicable to a V6. I have been wanting to do this to my max. I have checked on several forums to see if I could do this without going to a speed shop. Here is quote from some a member on a different forum.

"its rather easy to make your own, honestly. if you wanna do it the easiest way get 2 or 3 sealed r 12 bearings. get a .75" steel shaft and a 1.625" ID steel tube. that's more or less all you need to do.

i would recommend you use 3 open bearings and some oil seals and bathe those mother *****ers in some oil so they stay smooth and don't over heat. you'll also need to vent the driveshaft some how so oil doesn't leak past the seals.

get some loctite to make sure the bearings stay in place on the shaft and inside the tube and possibly some shaft collars for added stiffness and mass to keep the shaft from bowing under high rpms.

better yet, check out mazdamaniac.com and look at the supercharged mx-3 drive shaft. that'll help alot. and you can get much of your parts @ mcmaster.com and the bearings @ skatebearings.com and the oil seals @ bocabearings.com"

Mounting the blower is my big concern. At least I know it can be done.

Good Luck

I appreciate that info. I'll check those sites, too. I can tell you now, this not anything that I would make myself. I'll find a junk yard and remove the parts from a crashed car.

Too much for a v6? The Exterra IS a v6. The blower gives it about 40hp over the base v6, not sure of the PSI rating.

Will work on a VG maxima, considering the Xterra and Frontier use the VG33ER motor. Only differences in the motors are the manifold, and the stroke. Also if you do the same setup, might have hood clearance issues. But you can definately use the roots blower and do what Craig did with his car. Be interested to see someone attempt this again.

Here is a link for the spec's of the m-90.

This is the blower that I am talking about and I think it will work with the VQ. I am sure that you can find them on ebay. This was a common blower on 3.8L V6 Ford Thunderbird SuperCoupe IIRC. If you want to check local junkyards.

Does anybody have pics of the "Craig Mack" Setup.. I am very interested in doing the same...

I was away from the board for a year... and when I came back his car was already crashed... And I missed out... What a shame I loved his ride and he was the reason why I bough my old wheels (My old Konig CAffeines) The .org is missing something with out him... But any info, pics on his setup would be greatly appreciated.

Craig Mack's setup was similar to the probe guys. IIRC he used part of a kit that was offered by http://www.e-racer.com/prod01.htm

The people at e-racer don't offer the kit. Here is a link to a similar setup http://www.e-racer.com/completekit-1.jpg

Interesting. They recommend two or more blow off or bypass valves.

That is interesting. Wonder why that is. I've seen setups before that have 2 BOV's, but don't understand why. Maybe one isn't effective enough to bleed off boost?

IIRC it has to do with the PSI that blower is making at idle that it bogs down the throttle and creates a lot of turbulence. This doesn't happen with the muscle cars because the blower replaces the intake.
