Differences between V1 and V2 mounting plate.

the plastic idler pulley in my V1 kit melted a couple months ago.

my question is...what are the differences if any between the V1 and V2 mounting plates. i talked to stillen and got a replacment pulley, but its obviously smaller in diameter (2.3" for the pulley they sent me and the pulley on my car is near 4") which appears to be the V2 pulley. when i spoke to the salesperson at stillen he assured me that it would work on my V1. he said its the only one now and it works with all kits. blah blah blah.

the part number they sent me is 407500-24...which is the idler pulley in the V2 kit. when i look at the V1 parts list it says the idler pulley part # is 407000-26. am i looking at that correctly??

the mounting post for the idler pulley on my V1 plate looks too thick to accomadate this smaller pulley's bearing (this is just by sight since i have not pulled the blower and plate off the car yet)

is the mounting post on the V2 plate smaller than that of the V1? or will this 2.3" pulley fit onto my V1 plate? like i said i am just going by sight.

if anyone has burnt up the idler pulley on the V1..how did you go about getting a replacement?

i have contacted ASP and they sent me the same pulley...the 2.3". i specifically told him i had the V1. he said i could send him my busted pulley and bearing and he could duplicate...but there has to be another solution.

thanks for any help...i know it might be a shot in the dark. thanks again.

i melted my idler pulley on my v1 this past june. i ordered one from stillen and it cost me $80, i was on vacation in myrtle beach! shreaded my belt right off. the best replacement is the danco 76mm flat with flanges (6 rib). flanges of course meaning sides. i would start replacing your idler pulley everytime you change your belt or atleast every other time. this idler pulley cost less than $20 at advanced auto parts. the brand is danco. ive got a few Qs for you about your set up.. but there you have it. and no stillen will not return that pulley, so you can use it for a paper weight

i forgot, since you are replacing the idler pulley you may want to go ahead and replace the factory tensionor pulley as well for $56. i did, nice piece of mind. look to see if your idler pulley looks alittle worn on one or both the edges. why not start fresh!!

Good thread... I have been wondering the same thing... I've heard that the V1 plate is made from Steel, while the V2 plate is from aluminum. Therefore, once you start boosting, the mechanical movement from the engine will flex the plates. Because the V1 is made of more rigid material, it will flex less, and the pulleys /belts will stay aligned. The V2 plate will flex, and move the belt around, causing premature wear. Is that a reason for all the V2 owners complaining about the belts shredding? If not, what then?

And also, how do you prevent the belts from shredding on the V2... I have the ASP steel pullys... what else can be done? thanks

I SNAPPED TWO BRACKETS ALREADY!!!!

of course the two are different plates, there has never been a problem with the v1

the new v2 IS reinforced though, compared to the old one.

Steve

BTW does anyone have an extra plate lying around?

Where did you get the info from that the NEW V2 is reinforced? What is it reinforced with? And when did they start making the newer "reinforced" plates?

I believe slimer was referring to the reinforcing ribs that are part of the V2 bracket. I've never seen a V2 bracket that didn't have those ribs, though.

On a related note, I recently installed Kenneth's V1 kit that he bought from Craig Mack. It came with a new shoulderless, plastic idler pulley. I think Craig used the original idler pulley in his Eaton setup and left it behind in the junkyard.

When I installed the kit, the idler pulley kept on pulling the belt off the alternator, even though the idler pulley has no shoulders and the alternator pulley does. Amazing that a crowned pulley could exert that kind of sideways force. Anyway, I had to get out the dremel and grind off about 1/8" off the pulley mounting boss. I felt like a dentist going after a cavity way in the back of someone's mouth. After that it worked perfectly. I was very impressed with myself that I was able to do that without pulling the bracket back off the engine.

no, the new bracket doesnt have those reinforced ribs. instead, where the ribs were, there is a whole block of aluminum. then they machined out the parts where bolts connect to everything.
