Can you SC with stock exhaust?

Maybe a silly question I haven't come across any threads about this.
I am interested in getting the SP2 Greddy for my Max when that becomes available for 99's. If I wanted to SC with the stock exhaust, and just have like a WS y-pipe, would the car run fine, or is it too restrictive?

Why would you have a Y pipe and no B-pipe? 2.5" flowing INTO 2"

That aint a smart idea. If you're goin to SC...get at least 2.5"

I drove for 6 months with only a Y-Pipe and no other exhaust modifications with no issues.

However, I gained 19tq and 10hp when I put the cat-back on.

So yes, you can SC with a stock exhaust, but you won't be letting the SC do it's full potential....mostly you'll lack some torque.

I would like to get the Greddy SP2 catback, but I guess it will be a few months until it comes out. Lots of feedback from people who love their Greddy's and feel it would be better than the WSP 2.5" system. I was hoping in the mean time to run stock with a y-pipe to somewhat improve airflow if possible. Our exhaust stock, is it 2", or 2.25"?

Also, the SP2 is 2.25"?

i am running just a WSP Y-pipe as my only exhaust mod, and i would say the car runs very strong. my car trapped ~110mph in the 1/4 so i would say the top end is not hurting too bad.

there is no doubt in my mind that if I added a less restrictive exhaust that i would pick up in the range of ~25-35hp but its a matter of taste. i cant stand the loud sound of a aftermarket exhaust and also getting every terd on the street to rev or attempt to race me is not in my best interest. i am happy with picking my races as i choose.

it can be done on stock exhaust with no ill effects, but adding the right aftermarket exhaust with a SC setup is going to net you some good gains for sure.

Requin6, what you could do is get a full exhaust and then just get a dynomax muffler, those are very quiet!

My brother has a supercharged 2k1 running the 3.33 pulley with completely stock exhaust and has proceeded to pull on a M-Coupe hardtop on the freeway(on a very cool night of course). He put ~240 to the wheels with his setup.

P.S. The machine he dynoed on tends to read low

Cool. Thanks guys for some very good info. I'm maybe a couple months from getting a SC, so if the SP2 isn't out for 99 Max's, I'll just run stock on a y-pipe. Thanks...Alex

manual tranny?

240 seems right for stock exhaust and manual tranny. The stock ypipe is definitly slowing down the car. your bro's car is making over 50whp above the stock and he's running 9psi peak. that's like making 5whp [er psi. Usually you should make at least 10whp per psi. In my case: ~+90whp over stock with 10psi of boost and stillen Y.
