5 Spd + SC? What tires?

Hey guys, as of today I now proudly own a 1998 Maxima (SCed).

My question is this, for you SCed and turboed guys, what tires do you use?

Yes i know its front wheel drive, but dam its impossible to launch in first

No TRACTION!!

Just wanted to get some input from you guys.

Right now the car has 18 inch Nitto 555's. Is that as good as it gets on street tires?

They pretty good, but if you really want traction, might as well get yourself a set of slicks for the track.

the nitto's have one of the largest contact areas. i would stick with them. if you treat them good they will last and are great in the rain too

bridgestone pole positions are the best on the market except there a summer tire. i had the same problem with my five speed and s/c couldn't get traction for ****, now i have a auto and its much better. also you might want to try the limited slip it makes a world of a difference.

I agree these tires do well in the rain (to my suprise).
Bridgeston pole position, I will have to check the prices on those, but i wonder how much better they could actually be?

Additionally, thanks for suggesting limited slip. Not that i can afford that right now, but its food for thought.

the tires you have are great for the money. the bridgestones are a little pricey though but they are much better . they run about 300+ per tire
but are incredible when its hot, the hotter the better. but remember they are a summer tire only so if you dont have the cash to waste
i would'nt recommend them.

When I saw the title of this thread, I was going to say get Nitto 555R. I dont know if there is a street tire much stickier than these. Another thing would be to get the widest tire you car for your rims. Or, buy some new wheels 8.5" wide and slap on some 245 or 255.

To Requin6.

Yes, thats is the car i purchased.

Question regarding your 13.4 run. What size pulley are you using?

What kind of times are cars equipped with stock pulleys running (on street tires?)
