What gauge is more important ?

I wanna get at least one more gauge for my center concole...what one do you think would be more benificial ??

Oil pressure Gauge
Water Temp Gauge

I kinda wanna get the Water temp gauge because I would like to monitor the exact water temp, rather then lookin at the stock gauge on the dash and wondering

Oil pressure would be good too because I would be able to monitor the engine itself

Hey I would get both of them because the more you know about what going on with the car the better off you are!

I was on the same boat Matty.
I have a 4 gauge pillar pod and needed one more.

I ended up going with Oil pressure. I asked a similar question awhile back. I did not get a straight answer.

I'd do oil temp vs. water temp, if you don't have that already.

I really don't see a need for oil temp. If your engine actually gets that hot to break down oil, you have a bigger problem then the condition of your motor oil. Heat breaks down oil but I usually change my oil between 3K-5K. Water temp and oil pressure are the nice to have type of gauges since there are already OEM monitors for those.

By the time water temp shows anything, it's too late, damage is done. Oil temp would rise before water temp, but both are kind of just what the heck type gauges.

IMO, oil temp is useful because it will show when the car is truely up to operating temp before you push it.

Could you post a pic of your 4 gauge pillar pod?

IMO oil pressure is the most important of those 3 hands down....your dummy light won't tell you ****, the OP gauge could actually lead to saving your motor, although most of the time by then its too late anyways

I will see what I can dig up. It was red, now it is painted grey

Matty: I really felt compelled to the Oil Pressure myself.
My friend had a SHO, and one day he noticed his Oil pressure was very very low. His dummy light did not appear to be very helpful.

What would LOW oil pressure indicate, or High Oil pressure ?? Im tryin to get a grasp on what one to buy..I like the Oil temp and the Water temp gauges because it has to do with heat..it would give me a heads up if my radiator was going out or my water pump is poopin out

Search around on google for some information on low oil pressure.
http://www.autohausaz.com/html/oil_pressure.html

Oil pressure - or more precisely the lack of it - in certain parts of your car's engine can become a major repair nightmare. All engines lose a certain amount of oil pressure over time as normal wear increases bearing clearances. But unusually low oil pressure in an engine, regardless of mileage, is often an indication that something is seriously wrong and requires immediate repairs.

That "tappet" noise may be only one sticking lifter but it may also indicate an oil flow problem that will eventually cause damage to at least one valve.

A flickering oil light is more difficult to troubleshoot if your engine is not obviously in need of major repair work.

Modern engines with hydraulic lifters, tight tolerance bearings and miniature oil filters require conscientious monitoring of oil pressure.

If you insist on driving blind and deaf to the obvious warnings coming from under your car's hood, the next sound you hear may be a rapping or knock noise from the rod bearings - which will eventually be followed by dead silence as your engine seizes and your car coasts to a dead stop.

I agree, I am planning Oil Pressure and Water Temp. OP being a NEED.

well, low oil pressure indicates that either your oil pump is failing, you dont have enough oil, or you have a 'clog' somewhere. mostly you can attribute it to problems with the oil pump. if you have low pressure and you drive with it, then you can cause serious internal damage. even low pressure for a short time will freeze your rod bearings and warp your crank/rods, dry out your lifters, snap your timing chain, or cause other problems internally. always check your oil pressure before you go anywhere when you start your car. keep an eye on it when you are pushing the car also because if your pump freezes you will be **** out of luck if you dont turn the motor off immediatly.
