The cost of FI

The cost of Forced Induction.

well, it keeps coming up, the cost of going turbo VS the cost of going SC. Or we get Noobs asking "how much for a turbo?" so I figured I'd start by posting what I've spent so far, and what i've gotten. so lets see what we've all spent, so that we can get some facts behind the whole 'which one's cheaper' deal. I personally would like to see if I'm overlooking a major cost of upgrading, and dealing with more HP. so here it is:

SCer's:
Cardana24: $4230
Sleepermaxima: $5630
Meccanoble: $4400

Turbo:
Nateplaysbass: $4520
Seximagtr: $8189

Nates Custom Tubo setup;

T04B 70trim $420
Intercooler $400
Wastegate $200 35mm
Piping $350
BOV $230
ECU $720 95 JWT
Injectors $310 370cc
Exhaust $600
Materials $200 For machining (flanges etc)
Machine time $100 SERIOUSLY discounted price
powder coating $100
MAF $170
Oil/feed lines $100
Oil cooler FREE
SAFCII $220
Guages $200
Ceramic coating $350
Air filter $50

total $4520

This doesn't include tools boughten, and time spent. Plus I'm sure i'm forgetting a few things.

so there you have it, $4520, and the turbo's not even in the car yet...

I have a BASIC supply list and cost in the turbo fact sticky, for turbo's. So The info you posted in the 1st post. PLUS, when you dyno tune, throw that up there.

And if cardana will update his as well, I'll toss his info up there for SC.

ANd I think he wants pics of your turbo set up... I'd would like to see any you have as well Or do you want to keep them to yourself?

The SC crowd is going to hate me for throwing off the curve, but...

Full stillen V2 SC kit lightly used, BOV, and extra garbage 3000
Vortech 3.1" pulley 80
Walbro 255 hp pump 90
AEM FPR 180
Fittings and hoses for hooking up FPR 80
370cc injectors 220
Z32 MAF 140
Defi boost gauge 50
Defi electronic fuel press gauge 180
Innovate Wide band O2 kit 350
Autometer Narrowband gauge 50
Snow performance Water/Meth injection Kit (stage II, 240 psi) 400
Clutchnet 6-puck sprung clutch kit 330
Apex-i SAFC2 330
Exhaust cutout 20
Battery relocation kit 50
Replacing missing parts for SC kit, new seals and gaskets 80

Tuning $0
Labor (blood,sweat,tears) $0

Total $5630 (i think)

Since I 'm able to get 104 race gas, I'm not using the SAFC or the water injection right now so technically, you could say 4900.

hmmmm, all these setups are fine and dandy but im sure theres people that want to know cheap-o setups so.....

used turbo (variable sizes) - $100-300
intercooler - $350-450
piping (depends on quality you get) - $300-500+
junkyard bov/recirc. valve - $50-100
oil lines - $100 (add another $100 if you have both water and oil)
safc - $250
fuel pump - $100
fmu - $200

---------------------------------------------------------------
total: ~$1400-2000

of course this is the most basic elementary setup possible but theres no reason why it will not work. if you are careful with how much boost you run (dont get carried away) then you will be fine. you could also run on the stock fuel system if its worth it to you to save an extra $300 or so, but dont say you werent warned. also, this obviously requires you conduct all labor yourself or from someone at no charge...

Is this Ideal? or is this what you have?

I thought the same thing when I started,... OOOOoooops.

I don't want to include an Idealistic setup, only real ones.

im not sure by what you mean by ideal... are you asking if this setup is ideal as in prefferable or ideal as in idea? no, its not my setup, im still putting mine together. it is a realistic setup though and there really is no reason why it could not be acheived. granted, most of the people on this site have money to spend so they would end up doing it the right way but that is certainly a setup that would work.

I agree, FI is very expensive.

Densetsu: I agree with you, that would work as a basic setup. I kinda wanted to keep the price on a level were we can see what people are actually spending. Maybe I could offset the basic turbo setup, with the basic V2 SC kit. I'll have to think about it... keep talking though, your making sense. The problem here is this thing called the 'MOD BUG'.

Thanks for the posts guys, the list should be pretty cool.

Ok, I'm going to include a Basic of all basics starting point for SC and Turbo. Densetsu has posted a list of the basics for a turbo setup, does anyone have a basic SC list?
