cheapest sc/turbo?

I really want a turbo/supercharger kit. What's the cheapest price I could get a full kit for?

Im also willing to buy individual parts but only if I don't have to do custom fabrication. (pipe bending and welding are okay I guess)

im ok with getting a used sc/turbo too

Buying the "cheapest" kit is not as easy as it sounds. Same for building your own kit. What you need 1st is extensive know-how and knowledge of everything you'll need and where to get it. You do NOT WANT a used turbo......I've seen 1st hand how a used turbo works and you will kick yourself in the nuts if you buy one. A used supercharger isnt bad. Stillen/Vortech has a "re-fab" process where you send in the kit, and they clean it thouroghly......and I dunno what else they do.

Custom fabrication will take the most time. You have to decide ALL the pipe diameters, what routes they'll take, what size intercooler (if applicable), and also exhaust and electronics involved. You can get a used Stillen/Vortech V2 kit for about $2500 or so......maybe more maybe less. Even some BRAND new kits are as low as $2800. So it's up to you to find what you want and what setup you want to do.

Christhenite scored a used SC for $1100 recently. Just keep your ears and eyes open for someone to post a sale through the classifieds forum, ebay, etc.

yeah, im lookin in the 1500$ range. If it gets higher than that my parents are gonna flip out. A used SC doesn't sound too bad, and it's sorta in my price range too. I guess I gotta learn more about boosting before I do something, cuz right now I don't know much.

VERY TRUE. The little things do add up quick! BUT I think I will have the cheapest FI set up on the org. Here are my costs thus far...

Used v2 - $1000
Blitz DD BOV - $110
Walbro FP - $89
9lb Pulley - $40
Misc. bolts - $25
Super FMU - $130
Stillen missing parts - $75

Still have some more things to buy, but for now I am under 1500 beans with a pretty good kit in the works.

ChristheNite - How did you score that?

thisisausername - Buy a N20 kit(NOS #5124 or NX#20923) with ALL the trimmings and you'll be around $1500 with a reliable setup. Much easier to conceal from parents, remove from car to sell, and far less complex. Later down the road *IF* you decide to keep the Max, you can use it spool a turbo or help an SCs anemic torque.

I dont agree with this statement and find it to be quite misleading. there are plenty of used turbos in good condition and it is heinous to state that new turbos are the only choice in equipment. of course your standard ebay bought turbo for $300 claiming to be ball bearing is going to suck @ss... that is a given. but if you shop intelligently, source them from someone (or a shop) that actually knows their sh*t, then you will find there are plenty of used turbos available in very very good condition. the whole point of the matter is that if it looks too cheap to be true then that is probably the case. in most every situation you get what you pay for, but in certain circumstances one mans trash can become another mans treasure.

just do what i did and tell them the day before it arrives on your doorstep and don't tell them the truth on how much it cost. If my dad had found how much I have spent on my car he would deff stop paying for college.

If you want cheap/concealable boost,I have a NX wet kit for sale, brand new in box for $400.Thats within your price range. You'd need a few things (nitrous gauge w/pod,bottle warmer, remote opener, purge kit if you wanted, etc) but they run for $550+ new.

how exactly is that? you dont have to buy top of the line products to have reliable boost - ive spent only about $300 on electronics and i only need to spend another $100 more maximum. $120 for a used safc, $80 oil pressure gauge, $80 fuel pressure gauge, and all i have left is egt. i dont need boost because it really doesnt do anything - i know what my wastegates are set at, and if i spike its not like the gauge will prevent it so there really is no purpose to have it until im tready to raise boost. if you are spending $1500 on electronics then you better be pushing some serious numbers or have a really fabulous ride - neither of which i believe the original poster intends on having (hence his asking about the cheapest kit).

since when was nitrous classified as boost? not only are you limited to the size of your bottle (and ultimetly your source of funds to keep that bottle full) but nitrous isnt always present like boost and on top of that its illegal. why risk having something like that when you can spend just a tad more and have something far superior without jeopordizing your car? i dont know, it may be that cops here are far more strict than most places (besides ca of course ), but i and most everyone i know/live around would never substitute nitrous for boost - its just not the same.

if $20 a fill for a 10lb bottle is breakin' your pockets, you have other things to worry about. And youre right, its definitly not the same as actual boost, its fake boost that is not always there.but if the kid wants some extra go for not alot of money (cuz he's not gettin a full turbo setup for $1500 and doubtfully getting a s/c for that much, unless he's lucky and finds something) then why not go with a nitrous setup for a little while. Not gonna blow the engine unless youre a dumba$$ while using it.but youre right, its not boost, its forced induction...as is turbos and s/cs.

And yes, with my custom turbo setup,I spent probably that on electronics:
Boost,EGT,A/F gauges w/pod= $280
Blitz turbo timer=$125
APEXi AVC-R=$500
APEXi SAFCII=$220

those alone are $1125...
