Books on Turbocharging

I think I'm in the same sitaution as many others on this forum. I have been scouring the .org for awhile the past few days trying to get the most information I can about Turbocharging cars. I'm kind of set on the fact that you can adjust boost easily with the Turbocharger, and the fact that you can make more power with the Turbocharger. Plus, after hearing all these people removing their supercharger kits and upgrading to turbochargers, I think it would be best to do it right the first time, even though the cost differnetial isn't that great between the two. So, I guess I'm at the point now where I'm looking to get a book on turbochargers. I found a book by Corky Bell called "Maximum boost : designing, testing, and installing turbocharger systems / by Corky Bell. ". It seems like this would be a good thing to purchase to really further my knowledge. Hopefully this book can solve some of the issues. And I know there MikeI30T? is also working on assembling a turbocharger for his vehicle, so maybe I can gain additional information from him as well. Right now the only thing holding me back is lack of knowledge, because the financial situation is ok. If anybody has maybe any other reccomendations of other books to check out or some knowledge on that book by Corky Bell, it would be nice if you could let me know.

Thanks A Lot
Jason

The Corky Bell book is widely considered by many to be the FI bible. It should be a good start.

Yep.. I've got that book. It's definalty a good book to read for starts. It'll help round your knowledge on the hardware needed. I just found a book on ECU hacking and Stand alone systems at Barns&Nobles. Might want to check There for more selection of books on these subjects. The hardware is easy the tuneing is the hard part.

In addition to reading books, do other stuff as well.

What I have done so far has been is to take about an hour each night and search and read about a particular topic. Last night I read all about FMU's. Remeber to also search the 4th gen forum...we did not always have a boosted forum so searching just the boosted forum is not good enough. And since you not a donating member you can't search so that would be the first thing you should do. The knowledgeable boosted guys here will be alot more willing to help if your posts show that you have already done the research and your asking a particular question. Also look at other forums that have alot of boosted cars, most of the same technology and knowledge is transferable to maxima's. I also have a brother with a boosted car who knows his stuff so that helps. Last is to find a local boosted guy that is willing to help.

I have learned ton's over the last couple weeks.

Slimer... I'm prity close to you (couple hours) your welcome to come down on a weekend and look at my setup and I'll make some suggestions on your car.
I live in Elkhart IN (close to South Bend)
Looking at mine will clear up ALOT of questions and Maby by me checking out your car it'll allow me to see the differences in the engine designs for others who need help with your year/engine since I have not done a newer one.

i used to have a 94 gle so i have seen something similar. I am mainly interested in how you adapted the zx manifolds to fit onto your car. I have a friend that is in the MBA program @ ND and i have actually stayed in Elkhart more that a couple of times. It used to be on the way to Pittsburgh when I lived there. I dont have any questons on how it works. It took me a little while to figure out exactly what was neccessary for t/c but i have no trouble with it now, especially on our cars.

If I can find a weekend to come down, I will, but it looks like that wont happen until january. if you know how to assemble ss fuel lines, i will be there likety split.

SS fuel lines? Stainless Braided Steel Lines? like a -8feed and a -6 return?
I generaly have that stuff in stock. All our GN powerd cars we put together run -10 feed and -8 return lines. I make them all. If that's what your refering to.

yeah on the manifolds It was a direct fit. Just had to do some work on cuttin the t3 flange wall out to get the flow to go the direction I wanted. Vg30 same block. Had to swap the oil filter mount out to make it work on the back bank.
