I know guys have been going turbo on maxima’s for years now, but I could only think of 7 or 8 off the top of my head. I know there are more. If all you turbo VG, VE, and VQ guys could answer a little list of questions for me I would appreciate it.

This list of questions are just some things I am simply curious about. I have already purchased the basics of a turbo kit, so this is not a "survey" to decide wether or not I want to boost my I30. I am resigned to the fact that I will probably break something along the way and have made financial arrangements for when/if it happens. I am just interested in your experiences.

Just looking for simple answers, but if you feel the need to elaborate please go right ahead.

1. How long have you had the turbo installed on the maxima?

2. Have you busted a tranny or motor solely because you were boosted? Why?...too much power...bad tune...?

3. Is the turbo maxima your daily driver?

4. How much boost do you run on a daily basis?

5. Since getting the turbo up and running, how long would you estimate your car has been down due to turbo related reasons/repairs.

6. About how much do you think you have spent on turboing the maxima?

7. At this point, with everything that has happened along the way, do you think it was worth it?

1 year and a month

Not yet, tranny was already busted due to crappy input shaft bearings

Only 7-8 at the moment

All together... about 1-2 hours tops

Around $2,000 or so, I believe.

NO SOUP FOR YOU ....

1. Since march 2003

2. Auto tranny YES... to much power... Motor.. yes and no... Yes it was due
to being boosted, but my own stupidity for running lean

3. YES and only car

4. 10 psi

5. The tranny took 2 weeks working a total of 4 days. The motor was a SUPER headache... bad wiring and only working 1/2 days a week drug it out for MONTHS. After that ZERO days.

6. Let's just say I could have bought another 4th gen

7. Yes and no. Yes every time I hear the BOV or shock an new passenger. No, I gave up some $$ I should have used in my house, but I spent the money a few months before I had the house.

Approximately 7-8 months

Sort of. Broke a ring land in cylinder 6.... That motor came from a junkyard and it may have been a preexisting issue. I blew another motor due to hydrolock and shattered massive holes in the block. Current motor is boosting @ 16 psi for 7 months and running great.

3. Is the turbo maxima your daily driver?

Yes, I drive my g/f's eclipse as well

4. How much boost do you run on a daily basis?
16psi

5. Since getting the turbo up and running, how long would you estimate your car has been down due to turbo related reasons/repairs.

2 months

6. About how much do you think you have spent on turboing the maxima?

PFI kit plus all the accessories and toys I've got - reaching 8-9k

7. At this point, with everything that has happened along the way, do you think it was worth it?

If I ever feel its not worth it, I just downshift to 2nd gear doing about 40mph, feel my organs get pushed into my back.

The stock replacement clutch did not hold the extra power but the SPEC stage 3 is doing fine.

3. Is the turbo maxima your daily driver? Hell yes my winter beater actualy!

To begin with 20.00 now with new parts/upgrades I'd say in the 1500.00 area tops. I'm the king of budjet baby. yea...

7. At this point, with everything that has happened along the way, do you think it was worth it? Yes because I like to tinker with stuff and tune things slowly. Being a daily driver allows me to make progress a little at a time and feel like I'm actualy making progress instead of doing this
It's been a fun project for me and I'm glad I've learned so much especialy with the guys on this site. (you know who you are ) Did it make logical sense to mess with my driver.. no.. but who cares I'm enjoying my little experiment and it's realy only at the begining of the tune for now. I just got my wideband so it's tune tune tune for me here prity soon.

>> Think my rings are starting to go, just cos I beat the crap out of it.

3. Is the turbo maxima your daily driver?

>> Yes ... well also have a boosted IS300 but the Maxima is waaay faster!

4. How much boost do you run on a daily basis?

>> 12.3 psi ... tried turning it down to 5.5 psi (for about 20 seconds)

5. Since getting the turbo up and running, how long would you estimate your car has been down due to turbo related reasons/repairs.

>> Clutch, clutch and clutch .... and then tranny pick the right clutch the first time. It's a PITA to change clutch although I am now pretty quick at doing it having done it like 4 times!

6. About how much do you think you have spent on turboing the maxima?

>> Dunno .. hard to say cos I experiment a little $12K maybe?

7. At this point, with everything that has happened along the way, do you think it was worth it?

>> I think the big smile on my face speaks volumes especially after trying on the new turbo!
