Report on new GT35R

Hi folks

Today, I tried a custom ported GT35R turbo today since they are on special. All I can say is OMFG! I love this turbo! I get 1 to 2 psi of boost by 2000 rpm and 10 psi before 4000 rpm! I have not dynoed and tuned yet but have to say this is the most impressive (and scary) turbo I have ever used! Too bad the special ends at the end of the month! I will post dynoes next week. No time today! I have a big grin on my face right now!

Royal T, your sig pic makes me realize how big of a car a skyline is. D@mn.

Oh yeah. Good find on the turbo. Too bad I'm not an experience member of the FI world.

Nice. Where are they on special, and how much are they on special for?

They are on special with the turbokit I am selling for PFI. If you opt for the ball-bearing upgrade on our kit, you get the GT35R for free! It is normally another $600 or so more than the BB. Follow the link in my sig for details.

On their own, I think it is $1200 or $1300 for the same special trim I have with a ported housing and anti-surge. If you are interested, please pm me! Please do not compare the price with the standard off-the shelf part which is listed as $1600 I think is the cheapest I found on line.

It is on special through December only.

I don't think it will make huge HP numbers but it spools sooooo fast. The turbo itself is good to about 600HP (conservative). Can't wait to get it on the dyno ... yeah I know the dyno speaks a thousand words! I tried a GT37 before and the engine just couldn't spool the turbo so I never bothered to post.

Turbo97SE,

well your e-mail does not work so i'll just post hear.
Thanks very much for replying me. I have a T04E .70ar the only thing i would think I would have to do is change the flang to a v-band. the main concern is the feed pipe, since no one around me does mandrel bends. also what size is the intercooler pipes? I'm very interseted about this and plan on buying them as soon as you can give me a price. Thanks

Dynoed today!

Hi guys

I dynoed today! It spools very fast with a hard-to-describe whistling sound when it gets into boost! My AFR was horribly rich from 3300 to 4000rpm because of my FMU. Can't tune it out with the AFC. I really want to get my AEM on line properly. The top end was running into the 13s so I decided to leave it the way it was for now.

In summary, it didn't make any more top end power than a T4/60-1 but spooled a lot quicker. The graph shows only original, T4/TO4E @ 9.3 psi (which ships with the kit) and the GT35R which has a T4 exhaust housing @12.3 psi. I walked away from a 350Z that was already approaching me at 90 mph when I was doing 65. I left him 10 cars behind about 10 seconds later.

By 4000 rpm, I have more than 60ft lbs more torque and about 50 more HP. Doesn't sound like a lot but if you are a slower shifter like me, you stay in the power band more. Ooooo! Please someone else buy this turbo you'll love it, I can guarantee that!

Here is the dyno:

Hi there

Thanks for the interest. Please email me at turbo97se@comcast.net or pfiturbo@comcast.net. I know for sure they are working. Don't mean to be rude but, I don't think it is appropriate to discuss this stuff in this thread.

i'm slightly confused looking at the graph... the bottom is a baseline, the second is with the standard kit turbo (t4/t04e), and the gt35r. what is the difference in boost between the gt35r and the t4/t04e? gotto love the response though, looks very nice.

Good point! My sig used to have all the numbers, so I did not think to put them in. As you aluded to though, the boost level does not affect the spool. I have fixed my commentary above.

When you say the T4 60-1 made the same top end power, was that at the same boost level as well?

Hey punk remember me?

GT35R turbos are quick spooling and make big #s. What are the specs you're running? Try running GT40/37 mix. Enough power to snap all 4 of my axles on a highway pull.

Sup bud! Which rock did you crawl out from under?

mmm. I tried a straight GT37 before ... not impressed ... it was one of the first ones available. It had a freaking huge A/R on it though. I am looking for a GT40R for my other car but they're so hard to come by (in custom form) ... and they are serious $$$. GT42R is easier to find but that's too big for me ... I am not looking for 1000 HP. I would be happy enough with 750 or so

Hey nigel, do you remember the boost level on the 60-1? was that the dyno # i seem to remember from your sig that was like 427whp or something along those lines... 11.5psi I think?

429.7 HP and only 395.9 lb-ft @ 12.5 psi

C'mon Neal, his sig is in a post not to far up the page ...

j/k

Nigel - Is there any way you can put the dyno's of the 60-1 and the gt35r on the same dyno sheet? I bet that would be an easy way to see the difference in spool and power availibity at the different RPMs compared to one another.

His sig wasn't attached earlier. He must have changed his settings so it shows again.

Nigel do you have the pic of the 60-1 dyno plot so we can compare the power at different RPMs, I'm interested in it.

Nigel,

ANY chance you could dyno a GT30R?

Also, you just switched the turbine housing or wheel/shaft also?

Last, can you PLEASE send me the RunViewer files?

I posted a compressor map listing that included the gt35r a while back, there is a link to it in one of the turbo stickies or the thread is probably a few pages back. This was probably 2 months ago or so, maybe 3.'

turbo97se, what type of anti surge/ported shroud is on your gt35r? is it the drilled style or the full round one? would you happen to have any pics of it...

I would really like to see Three things plotted on Dyno.

1. GT30R with .82 A/R Turbine housing.

2. GT30/40R.

3. GT35R using .63 A/R Turbine Housing with a VBand T3 Exhaust Housing.

I pretty sure the numbers would vary in with these setups.

not sure what you mean by full style vs. drilled.. i think mine is "full" certainly no drill holes in it!

Morpheus .. .looks like you are looking for super fast spool with low power output. A GT35R with .68 A/R is as small as I am willing to go. I have tried a T4/TO4E with 0.58 A/R and it didn't really spool any quicker than my T4/TO4E with .81 and it made less power ... don't know why ... counterintuitive, I know! My personal belief is T3 housing is a waste of time. if you are auto .. even more so! if you want a kick in the pants, stick to nitrous!

Nigel-I just recently put on the GT35R with the T4 .68A/R housing (bought from PFI). Its fairly quiet at idle and vaccum, under boost I get a lot of air noise but not a whistle like I thought I may get. I am only running 4.5 psi and with forward style y-pipe(2.5 in mandrel & 3.0 in mandrel down) . I get full 4.5 psi around 4K and start spool around 2700ish, does that sound normal?

Mmm I get boost at around 2000 rpm. I get whistles when it boosts ... I like that sound. I should datalog my boost vs rpm to see when boost comes in. I'll do that in the next couple of days

weird, I can fell pressure building in vaccum around 2000rpm which stays at 0 psi for a go few hundred rpms but dont see the boost gauge go pass 0 psi until like 2800rpm. However I do spool a lot quicker in 3rd with comparison to my buddy's RB25DET in his 240. He's running a smaller t3/t4 i think. The turbo is loud but no whistle, I am only at 4.5psi would that be a reason?
