Yippee 590's are in

As some of you may know I ordered the 590's from SuperDave, Well I finally got a chance to put them in. After the install, I tried to start the car, but to no avail the car wouldn't start!!! Which sucked! so I called my good ole friend Mardigras who told me that it was because the cold start feature in the ecu was dumping too much fuel in the car. So I wired up a push button start and the car Idles fine. I have not had a chance to drive the car yet because it's snowing right now but. I have revd it out to 5 grand and so far so good.

This combuination is 590+z32 maf+emanage+cali spec 99

Thanx Dave!

I'm curious how a pushbutton start aids in cold starting? I am especially curious because my car has it as well, I just assumed it was done for fun, not for a functional purpose. Looks like I was wrong.

When you turn the key to start, it triggers the cold start feature in the ECU, when you use the push button start, you bypass that.

Well you learn something new everyday. What's strange about my pushbotton start, is that sometimes out of habit I will just turn the key to start the car, and sometimes it will turn over. But then other times, turning the key will do absolutely nothing. I know that sounds crazy but I swear it's true, sometimes the car will start with the key, and sometimes it won't even crank, but it always starts with the button of course.

Sounds like a bad wire tap or connection.

Good deal Corey, I was begining to wonder what happened to you - I'm glad everything worked out. Now you can make the BIG power!! I think Blubyu2k2 is picking up a set as well. I have also sold several sets to other members for their SR's.

btw - I'm not sure if it was changed in the original stickey, but can now make sets of 480cc, 550cc, 600cc, and 660cc if anyone is interested.

I'd like to state that the push button starter doesn't defeat the "cold start" enrichment from the ECU. At least from what I can tell, it wouldn't make a difference.

However, what it does do is prevent the ignition ON signal to the ECU as you're turning the key from the ON to START, which causes the ECU to prime the fuel pump for a steady fuel pressure. So, when you normally put the key in and turn, the fuel pump is activated which increases fuel pressure in the line, so when you actually start the car it has 34psi of fuel pushing behind the injectors. Now, with the push button starter, you'll be starting with less then 34psi, since the fuel pump won't have time to prime the lines and less fuel being dumped causing cold start problems.

Not a big deal or anything, but that's what I think happens according to the FSM.

Sounds like a good method to help cold starts.

Ice does the fuel pump run to prime the engine when the key is just in the On position or when you start turning past the On position to the Start position? Because on my car, the key must be in the 'on' position, and then I press the push-button starter.

Well there goes that theory, yeah it turns on for 1sec. when in the ON position.

More than Likely I will be testing the strength of our rods now. I have a hardened crank and my compression is about 8.75:1 so I can turn up the boost with not many worries now. The most of my worries right now will be how much horsepower the rods can hold

The start signal when cold triggers the ECU to do a fuel dump, just like on a carb car you have to pump it before you crank it. This dump is calculated for stock injectors so with larger injectors its excessive, it can not be counteracted with an AFC. Putting the switch in run and cranking the starter with out the ECU bypases this issue becuase the ECU has no idea you are starting, it just thinks run. JWT figured this trick out when the 555cc first came out. Now the JWTs have this adjusted in the ECU's

that looks likea wiring nightmare! I wouldnt want to have to hide those wires.

so basically the vid is to show that it works? gooooooooood.

what settings did you enter for original value on the emanage?

was that a push button start or did you turn key?

Corey will hide all of the wires...one thing I CAN'T do is make **** look pretty, I'm too lazy, I leave that to other people..as long as it runs, my job is done

yeah, it was just to show the idle and show that Emanage is definently a well put together system and well enough sufficient for most ANYONE on here in need of decent management. anything that can handle an increase from 270cc to 590cc with very little tweaking gets a from me! also props to superdaves sweet *** injectors!!(I might have another person with a SR interested in a set of 590s) and we ran the car, but I forgot the camera same results as my other post, stable AFR and all.

settings are set for the Z32 MAF(7-0-1?) and injectors are set to 370/590

it was a push button start, but in the vid it was already running

That video is great! Mind if I use it? I get a lot of people that are worried about idle quality. I tell them it is up to the tuning and that if tuned properly they idle perfectly but I don't think they always believe me.

Did you adjust the lag time on the injectors? I have not had them measured yet, but ~0.7 seems to work well on the e-manage.

go right ahead and use it

and no, other than setitng the injector settings for 370/590 in the parameter menu...there were no other changes made, it idled them fine right out of the box!

Ahh, that is probably why you didn't need to adjust the lag time. Decreasing fuel pressure decreases the lag time so that probably brought the 590's right back to stock lag time.

I've not had to adjust lag even with normal fuel pressure but I know some of my customers have.

34psi is stock fuel pressure at idle.

What is lag time?
