Another Turbo Max (pics inside)
Well for the past week I've been working on a turbo for my car, and I finally got it running last night. There are a few issues with it, a rough idle, bucking/hesitation under part throttle, and sometimes a hesitation around 4K rpms under medium load. I have yet to get into the gas, I'm waiting to tune before that. Still though, the car is as fast now under half throttle as it was WOT when I was N/A. The turbo (T3/T04e 60 trim) spools a little under 3K. For now, I'm running 6 psi with just the wastegate spring. Ran into a few kinks along the way with the install, namely the oil pan leaking on the tranny side because of the half-circle gasket not seating. It was a pain pulling everything off again, but well worth it. Here are a few pics.

looks great
i see the cartech FMU good choice do you have a FP gauge to see if its working
can you get a pic of where you tapped the pan for the oil drain ive got a good idea but would just like a pic to confirm

Subs, I'll try and get a pic of that soon, all I have now is the one showing the pipe that I welded in. I tapped it on the front side, I think it was between the 2nd and 3rd bolt holes from the transmission side. It is right where the support is on the engine, so the crank wont be throwing oil up the drain line.

Question...your charge pipe looks VERY VERY close to the downpipe if Im not mistaking....I see there is heat wrap on it, but how did you manage that?
Got any under carraige pics?

Thanks for the comments! As for the feed pipe, it took around 5 hours to make, piping the wastegate was kind of difficult. A shop would probably be able to do it in alot less time.
Thats it, just the rrfpr, nismo fpr, and walbro 255lph pump.

My MAF is on the charged side, it sits kind of close to the turbine, so hopefully that wont cause problems down the road. The piping is aluminized mild steel, I bought the bends from jegs. I wouldnt recommend them though, the pipes were slightly crushed in the bends. Nothing major, but kind of a pain to weld nicely, there are lips on the inside of some of em. As for the price, I would say all said and done, with the gauges and all the misc. bolts and such, probably close to $3500.

slimer...dude i just moved...i am half hour north of philly now. i go back to pittsburgh on the weekends so pm me if you will be there on any weekend and we'll get together. 10 mins east of pittsburgh i stay w/ a friend on the weekends...called monroeville...its a larger suburb...you can see it on any map...or if you are in philly sometime check me out

That is the cleanest VE-T setup I have seen to date. I love how you stuff the IC behind the bumper and front lip. Did you cut the lip and support? or just take the support completely off? Also, did you do it yourself? I didnt catch that part.

My dad and a few friends helped me every now and then, its much eaiser to do the piping when you have an extra set of hands.
Yeah, the support is pretty well hacked up. I just found out tonight with Scott's help that the bend that I have right before the MAF is causing my rough idle. We moved it to the non-charged side for right now, and the idle is smooth. I do have alot more problems with stalling/backfiring now, I think its running super rich. The vented BOV probably has something to do with that also. This weekend I'm going to redo the intake piping and move the MAF to the straighter section of pipe, and move the BOV around. Hopefully that will clear some things up.

if your bov is before the maf (when its on the charged side) it shouldn't run rich when you release the throttle as it is venting un-metered air. however, when you put the maf on the non-pressure side it will act up when the bov opens.

about 9 months now, but i blew my motor on dec. it got lean about 150+ mph on the turpike, now the motor is done up, but i'm still having roblems with the timing, the is 5 diferent chaings in this friking motor, it was droped 2 times now i just got it back this sunday and i'm getting the fealing is still not time rigth, today i'm going to put the jtw ecu back in the car and swith the 370cc to the new program ecu with the 550cc injectors and we will see what happend them, i will post some pictures today as soon as i learn how!

Update: Tonight I was able to get a rough tune in. I moved my MAF back to the charged side, since having it before the turbo was causing some major issues at part throttle. I tuned it to around 11.1 AFR, but the numbers were jumping around a bit. The part throttle AFR under boost is pretty rich, between 10.0 and 10.6, but I dont think I can correct for that since the FMU adds the fuel pressure regardless of throttle position. It run fairly well, still backfires sometimes though when WOT. It does that usually when the fuel pressure hits 80+psi, but sometimes lower. Hopefully correcting the bend in my piping before the MAF will solve that problem, along with the idle.

did you go to the dyno or do you have a wideband if so which one
you could lean out WOT to 12:1 which would still be perfactly safe and that could help your excessivly rich partial throttle
regardless it sounds like your making great progress which is good to here
