Belt rubbing SC mounting plate with smaller pulley

The Wizard and I installed his SC on his '99 last week. We recently noticed belt powder on/around the SC mounting plate. Upon further inspection we noticed that the belt is rubbing against one of the SC mounting plate legs (leg #6 if you look at Stillen's instructions photo #8 - just below and to the right of the pulley itself). It appear that it would clear if we were using the 3.6" but it is hitting with the 3.25". Is this normal? Do we need to shave the leg down? What is the smallest pulley before the belt rubs?

I just installed the same pulley today. Mine was doing the same thing looks like it needs to be shaved down a little.

cut that peg completely off, I highly recommend both of you guys do that!!!!ASAP you can grind it down, somewhere around the line it may rub and it will realease a squealing noise as if one of your bearings are shot.

I just took a dremel to that post. I had to pick up a couple packages of those cutting discs because I went through quite a few of them. Unfortunately the switch on my dremel got burnt out after it came off but thank goodness it was still under warrranty.

Why chop it off completely instead of grind it just enough for clearance?

I suppose you could grind it just enough but that would mean taking the whole thing off several times until you have it right. Its up to you but the consensus has been to chop it off.

I'd rather grind I think BlackCat. With our 3.25", the belt appeared to just barely be touching the SC mounting plate leg. So I am guessing just a little shaving is needed.

Besides can't we do it off the car by installing the 2" pulley (without side rails) on the plate and routing the belt around the SC pulley and the 2" pulley?

So what is the smallest size SC pulley before rubbing? 3.33"?

Thanks.

I had to grind the post when I had the 3.33" and when I went to 3.125" I just shaved the post off completely.

Well,we grinded that leg down last night. It wasn't as hard as I thought would be, and I only went through 4 sandpaper barrels for my dremel tool

3.25 clears with no problems now. Should be up and running within a day or two.

That would be 'roll up' since you are North of us. Sounds good, I'll talk to The Wiz and see if we can squeeze it in among all the other modding.

Good job Jim. Nice and clean. Hey, I trust that the Mountain Dew (*cough* 58 cent Sam's Choice Mountain Lightning *cough*) will be cold before I come over tonight?

Very soon my friend. We need to button up James' (one more night), finish putting my '96 back to stock (one or two more nights), then I want to do some tune-up stuff on my '99 ahead of time (plugs, PCV, etc.). I also have a tint appointment on Friday and they will need the car over night because I have a removal. To answer your question, we'll start probably by the middle to end of next week.

Tay, I think we'll be fine putting the '96 SCs on our '99s. I have done a number of test-fits of my plate up to Jim's car and worse case scenario is we might need some 1/16th-1/8th washers. Anyway, if I install before you, I'll be sure to pass along any and all tips/info. you will need.
