Got a quote for turbo piping, need your advice.

I got a quote today for turbo piping, this is what im getting full 3 inch stainless steel reverse y pipe, full stanless steel 3 inch downpipe and full stainless steel catback 3 inches, mild steel intercooler piping at 2.5 inches and the turbo air intake piping ( im gona get them powdercoated), and im getting a high flow cat, the bov flange, the 02 sensor bongs on the pipes, and hes gonna mount my front mount intercooler. Now all this is costing me 1700-1800$ what do you guys think, good deal or a bit expensive?

even if you get it powdercoated, it still chips when you install it. its an ok price, but make sure fitment is correct. you dont want to lose a ton of ground clearance, especially with PennDOT's crappy roads.

not too bad, is it all mandrel bent? With all the accessories it should put it in the ballpark figure of what an upgraded PFI kit would cost, depending on which turbo you decide to go with.

The room was pretty tight with just 2.5 reverse y pipe.

Is a 3 inch reverse y pipe gonna be to big to fit? I was thinking that since im running a t4/t60-1 id go with the bigger reverse pipe
Maybe get a 2.5 inch reverse y and get the downpipe and the rest of the exhaust 3"? better alternative?

i would have them do 2.5in from the manifolds to the y and go 3in from the y to the turbo

and definitly find out if its mandrel bend

I dont know for sure, but I suppose a 3" y would be alright, after all, there would be more exhaust pressure in that pipe than a 2.5" pipe. I just haven't seen anyone use a 3" turbine feed before.

Steve, are you thinking about a turbo now? If you want something, I have a bit of spare 3" piping laying around.

I think that is a decent price for all of that in SS if it is indeed mandrel bent. I imagine it would be cheaper and just as effective to use a 2.5" SS budget or warpspeed y-pipe and weld it into the reverse Y. No reason to have that custom made.

Since this guy is gonna have to do all this fabrication anyhow, might as well look into doing a different and more direct set-up than a reverse Y.

If you are going with a custom setup I see no reason to use a reverse Y setup. You will reduce turbo lag with a more direct setup like Brad92se's setup.

I thought brad's setup was a reverse y. No? I always thought a reverse Y was basically a y turned around so it points forward(Of course this is over simplified).

I guess you could call mine a "forward y"

I always thought thats what a reverse y was. That doesn't make sense. So what people call a reverse Y is just a regular y that bends around? Thats stupid terminology.

it just goes in a "reverse" direction in the way that it was meant to go.

Yeah I don't know where the term came from but I assume it is to mean that the Y goes back and turns 180 degrees thus reversing its direction.
