boost and engine damage?

if I get the stillen super kit or build a turbo and put 6-8 psi on an otherwise stock motor (besides y-pipe), am I likely to cause engine/tranny damage? Have any of you been boosted for a long period of time with a fairly stock car and had no problems? On the flip side, have any of you run fairly small amounts of boost and caused some engine/tranny damage?

6-8 psi of boost its self won't due short term damage, maybe long run wear and tear but that has not been proven in the VQ in particular. Any motor damage at that low of boost is just improper tune or user error, like a mis-shift.

Fairly stock car and boostd....contradiction....

yeah i meant stock internals... sure the car is gonna last if you got forged pistons and high flow injectors and such. I wanna know if the car will last with nothing but a super/turbo on it

Like I posted before, at that level of boost is all about how you have the car tuned because 6-8 psi tuned is not gonna hurt the motor. And tuned includes the use of larger injectors because 8 psi of turbo boosted will need larger injectors.....shoot, 5 psi of turbo boost really should have larger injectors.

The anwser is that it is not the boost you need to be worried about it is how you manage it.

with a y-pipe, injectors, and a fuel pump, what kind of times do you think I would run for 1/4 mile and 0-60 at 6 and 8 psi?
1996 SE, 5spd, open diff.

im trying to decide whether its worth my money to make my max faster, or just get a secondary "summer car" to mod and beat on.

Motor runs like a champ. The only problem I've had in almost a year is the replacement of 2 wheel bearings.

Quick question! There are seven votes and only four people posting. THISISAUSERNAME asked the question; so who are the other people posting and why did you blow up your stuff?

We're having bad blowby issues on Shadow's car right now after about a year under 5-7psi w/ the turbocharger. Probably lost the ringlands on a piston somewhere but we haven't had time to do a compression test. Before that it was running a 3.33" pulley V2 for 15-20k w/ an improperly installed fuel system (by a shop who will remain nameless). Car has about 105k on the clock w/ the original auto tranny which held up just fine.

The damage was most likely started under the S/C since we ran the car at the track and couldn't figure out why it wasn't faster than 15 seconds. It burned the hell out of a couple new plugs that day at the track too before we finally pulled the S/C out of frustration and found the unplugged fuel pump.

Under the turbo, it did a couple dozen dyno runs, made about a dozen high 13/low 14 second runs and never saw above 11:1 A/F b/c of the aggressive BEGI fuel pressure riser. It also made a healthy 302whp/314ft-lb of torque through the auto.

boosted 105k. Ran a 13.6 last week on 10psi with stock injectors/26lb wheels/no tuning. So I would say that it is safe to have boost. I only have 111k on my car/motor which is all original! VQ is D-shznt!

The VQ is known to run fine around 10psi with stock internals but can blow with as low as 3psi without proper tunning.
