I dont know about a 3" cat-back, but my magnaflow is pretty nice. You can hear it, but I wouldn't say its that loud. Maybe try putting a huge resonator on before the muffler. Whatever you do, go with a straight-through design.

Get a monster Magnaflow. I got a 30"x3"IDx6" case and stuffed it in the exhaust tunnel. Its extremely deep and fairly quiet. I'm not flowing turbo type flow yet though so...

I have a Magnaflow. EXTREMELY LOUD. I think its getting a little bit quieter now since it's breaking in but very annoying still. I might just take it off and weld a Flowmaster on just to try something new.

my two magnaflows are so freaking quiet. i think its the size of the muffler body that counts. i have a 3" pipe splitting to 2 six inch round 2 1/4 inlet mufflers and they are practically silent after 3500 rpms. all you can hear is turbo spool.

Use a real muffler in place of the resonator, and end with another nice muffler at the end. I have Magnaflow mufflers on my 3" setup and it sounds nice.

You have any photos? Sounds very interesting. Hows the db level before 3500?
