EGT and hottest Cylinder?

I am getting rid of A/F ratio gauge and putting in a EGT.

i know that the probe must be within 2 inches of the exhaust port but am not sure which cylinder is the hottest on the VQ.

Shouldn't they all be the same? Can't you just put the probe right where the cylinders merge in the collector?

They're not going to be the same since we have a fuel rail that loops around... The last cylinder in the fuel rail is obviously going to get less fuel than the first one.

No !!!!! if you put the probe right where they merge you're gonna get a really slow response time and it's not going to be accurate as to hottest EGT Temp. on the hot cylinder.

The only way to tell if one cylider is hotter than another is to check each one, so that's why I posted to see if anyone knew of one cylnder was hotter than another?

Is that a Fact? Tested? Maybe I'll tap every cylinder and check every cylinder if nobody knows?

I sincerely doubt there would be an appreciable difference in EGT from one cylinder to another. That said, most of the people I've heard of blowing head gaskets, cylinders, etc, have blown them on the front bank. My front bank of cylinders in my blown motor are all shot, whereas compression in the rears is still normal.

Interestingly enough - same situation on my blown one. That front bank runs leaner...... My egt's run hotter in the front and the rear ... at 11.5:1, the car was hitting about 1350-1400, where in the back at the same a/f on the sc'er, it barely got over 1250ish.

I've got mine installed on the #1 cylinder - the one closest to the passenger - top left, if looking at the engine from the front. I've read, although I don't remember where, that that's the hottest cylinder.

Also, if you're looking for the absolute best indication of what's going on in your engine, get a WBO2 sensor (I've got the AEM UEGO, but there are a bunch of others).

Check out this thread that talks about WBO2 vs. EGT

So thats a fact then? You've tested this with EGT? Good theory but I was kinda lookin for a straight answer?

Ya know, I've been told that on the forums... but neal's got a point too.... That front bank is the first to lose cylinders, even though the cylinders that are last on the rail are in the back bank.... I'm not sure what to tell ya...

Typically, the leanest cylinder has more to do with intake manifold design rather then fuel-rail position.
