Track times at US 41 Friday.
Track times at US 41 Friday.
Ok.. I finaly got the insanity to take the Maxima out to the track. I've been trying to go the last few weeks but somthing has come up every time. It worked out good for friday so I trailered it down to US41 in Morrocco IN.
I've always had a good time at the track on fridays when it's not too crowded and they run till 1am normaly.
ANYHOW, what a learning experience! I'm usto RWD cars and automatics. This FWD and stick stuff it nuts!
I got the Nitto 555R 245/45 17's on the front and set the tire pressure to 20psi. The car seems to hook decent off the line regardless of how I launch it but then once I get about 35-4000rpm it starts spinning the tires just in time to shift into second where the SPEC stage 3 clutch won't hold my quick shift. When I let off the gas and let it actualy grab ... it's ok but not with a speed shift... any ideas on how to help there?????
3d gear and 4th gear seem fine and pull hard. I'm usto 1.48 60' this 2.2 is like turtles FU**ing.
I made about 10 passes. Several back to back with no cool down.
Best time 13.49@107.37mph. That was against a white Ford Lightning truck which I spanked
Suprized a 88ish Mustang GT. that was fun
Bet he hated to watch the fading tail lights of a 206,000 mile 4door winter beater!
Met a few guys there at the track that were great... nice to meet you all in person. I'll call you on monday for that automatic trans!!!!!
Hope all is well on the board.. i've been buizy and my home computer is still smoked.

wow that thing runs GOOD
how much boost were you running
im suprised the spec 3 is slipping my act/clutchnet NEVER SLIPPED EVER it would pull the RPMs back down power ****ing on the spray no problem
PS get some slicks and go back but go easy on that trans or youll blow it

I'm defintaly not a FWD launching expert!! I'm usto 1.48's in the RWD stuff I build with Buick engines... I'll stop back and post the time slip tonight or tomorrow for you. Do I scan it and send it to someone???? Let me know how to do that....
Thanks for all the nice comments...

ps, Be glad to share any info on my setup anytime

Ok... here's how the actual slip reads:
60' 2.250
1/8mi 8.897
85.44mph
1000ft 11.390
1/4 13.49
107.37mph
Here's my build.. or lack there of
89 VG with 206,000mi 5spd black.
Stock bottom end with above miles.
Heads, intake, plenum ported and flowed ballanced by me.
Stock GN intercooler with 2.5" inlet/outlet located in front bumper
TA49 Turbo from John Craig@Limit Engineering (designed for GN)
Stock exhaust manifolds with 2" bends leading to a 2.5" up/pipe to turbo.
3" down pipe narrowing to 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler.
Used 370cc Injectors, duel inlet fuel rail with Aeromotive FPR.
Used 300ZX MAF
Pocket Romulator tuner for editing fuel/timing curves with Bernard's help!!!
Spec Stage 3 Clutch
That's it realy. nothing special.
I was running 12-13psi on pump gas(premium obviously)
Like to go to a Alky setup soon so I can run 89oct. and leave everything else alone.
I've only had experience with the VG so my knowledge is limited to this engine so far. Be glad to help anyone who's got the same setup as mine.
I have pictures of everything I've done.
This car has definatly been a learning experience!
I'll gladly take lessons in FWD Launching... man I suck at it!
Plus I can't realy put a tranny in it every week!
Thanks again, Scott~

Thats awsome. How long did it take you to port the intake? Where is the turbo? why not run custom headers over the where the maf is stock and have the turbo there insted of all those up/down pipes. Should help spooling alot.
And how hard was it to change the fuel rail to a dual feed. Doesnt look too hard.

It was nice meeting you at 41 Scott. you ran some good times. maybe ill keep up with you next time, you only got me by a bit. lol for haveing drag radials on your 60 foot time was only .037 seconds less than mine. i should have upped my boost that night to 12-13 and tryed to keep up with you, 2 psi more might have done it. good times, o and i love your turbo kit its so..... economical
my slip from that night
60ft 2.287
330ft 6.132
1/8 et 9.185
1/8 mph 82.29
1000' 11.782
1/4 et 13.976
1/4 mph 103.18
my setup
full custom turbo kit consisting of:
-tubular ceramic coated headers,
-ceramic coated ypipe over the tranny
-3 inch down pipe
-three inch strait through exhaust
-to4b turbo with a MASSIVE exhaust houseing (1.32 a/r), which still spools pretty good.
-garret core intercooler
-550cc injectors
-romulator tuned ecu
this was also on non z rated street tires. (not sure what they exactly are.)

Alex... There are 3 parts to the intake that need attention on our cars mainly for each runner to recieve the same volume of air when under boost.
The lower intake (bolts to the heads) needs alot of material removed on the top part and the area around where the injectors protrude down relieved.
The lower plenum needs all the areas around each port smoothed and the radius smoothed.
The upper plenum is flow dependent on how the elbow feeding the throttle body is designed. The duel throttle body is tough to ballance both sides evenly. Nissan knew they had a problem from the factory so they put the ITV (intake Tuning Valve) in there from the factory to help.. .but it realy wasn't a "cure" For the problem.
My elbow feeding the throttle body crams alot of air into the drivers side TB so I totaly gutted the center section out of the intake and used stainless steel to baffle it till it was a ballanced flow out of each port.
(used a leaf blower to simulate boost and airflow)
It takes alot of time to get that part right 6hrs or more.
The turbo sits just over the tranny. The factory exhaust manifolds are perfect for turbocharging. They are very thick, have a stainless steel heat shield around them with fiberglass heat wrap on the inside! With some port work on the inside there Great.
I did a writeup on the duel inlet fuel rail.. (do a search) it's not hard but it definalty feeds both sides evenly when it needs the volume of fuel.
JClaw.... I think I would need a tranny if I put slicks on it..... I thought the Nitto 555R extream Drag radials would help but I'm too chicken to launch it hard or not good enough eather way.
107 would get me in the 12's I'm sure but once again this realy isn't my race car and I gota have it driving daily... I'm about ready to get out the winter tires here in a few months again.. yuck...
I had a great time talking with you guys at 41... thanks again for inviting me.
We'll go out and spank some more unsuspecting Mustangs and Lightings.

Your car definately has 12s in it (107 mph trap speed=12s). Be funny to see an 89 maxima hauling 12s
