Aluminum Griffin Radiator (New Toy)

Well it seems that my radiator and fans gave out on me when SGP was tuning my car( I guess it died of old age..LOL..) Well I did some looking and found an All Aluminum Griffin Radiator for our cars from B&E Customs. The quality of the Radiator is pretty good(nice welds and just overall great quality). So I decided to take some pics and show you'll my new toy. I'm going to polish it up tonight and tomorrow and hopefully I can put in my new radiator and fans these weekend and turn up the boost. SO enjoy.

This is how it looked when it arrived:

To my knowledge they offer 30% more cooling than standard radiators(or more i can't remember), and can handle more power. When I contacted them they told me this radiator can handle 600hp.

I paid 375$ w/ out shipping( i paid for overnight). If i go to the shop this weekend I'll try to bolt up the stock fans. I'm not using stock fans any more, I just bought some Flex-A-Lite Low Profile Fans 12", but I'm sure they should fit.

**edit** you also can get the radiator polished for like $40.

How much more coolant/water will this radaitor hold over stock?

Does anyone know how thick the stock radiator is? The pics up there say 1.5" for the griffin one.

hehehehe its not even in the car. my lazy **** its sitting in the garage for the past 9 months.

B&E customs is one very close customers/vendrors. you guys probably tlked to eric(bookoo). the radiator does bolt up in all the stock locations for the fan and it slips into the factory mounting brakets. i was waiting to get a flex a lite fan as well cause you do lose clearance for the sc charge pipe with the griffin radiator. hopefully the radiator i sold to T..E..T. will go on soon as well so i will know if it trully is a bolt on. the aluminum radiator sould displace a lot more heat than a stock unit. 30% more i guess is the indutry standard on aluminum radiators. i also wanted a wter temp guage for a before and after comparison as well that is the other reason i have not installed the radiator.

hehehe larry you are right funny when i posted about the radiator noone seemed to really give a flying shiet. oh well its available you guys know where to get it.
enjoy the new toy.

It should be much more efficient than the Max radiators. The MT OEM's are probably not even an inch and the AT are like an inch and a quarter but a significant area is taken up by the tranny cooler. I know I wasn't boosted but I rarely saw the temps spike off the T-stat when moving. Most of the time it would sit right at 180. Occasionally when in a parking lot it would jump up into the 190's. The highest I ever saw was 198. I think the stock cooling system of the max is one of its strongest assets.

Maybe you're just keeping secrets to yourself...

I called Griffin up over a year ago and they wanted like $700 to make a prototype...

Let me know when Andy installs one... give me a ring... I'm not on the board as much as I use to be.

Puller fans are superior to pusher fans for cooling. Get pullers if you can fit them. I've got a pusher and I'm not happy about it. The cooling system on my car is one thing I'm not convinced is up to snuff.

That's a nice radiator. If I ever redo my cooling system I would probably get it.

you'll have to modify the mounts on the bottom of the fans to make it fit.. once you take your stock fans out, hold it up to the new radiator and you'll see what i'm talking about, it's a simple fix with a dremel. it didn't take that long for me to do it.

I agree with the way the stock cooling system is on the VE. I use to have a lot of issues when I use to live in Las Vegas.

But I found a way to completely solve all cooling issues, probably up to 400hp. ....

Remove your AC condensor!

I opened up that airflow passage and now in 80 degree weather, my Tstat is regulating the operating temperature!! I couldn't believe it! I am now operating at 165 degrees no matter how I drive or where I go!! I have a 150 Nismo Tstat. I recently went to South FL, where it got to 80 degrees on a couple of the days and my coolant temp didn't get above 165 the entire time when my car was moving. When I was sitting still in a parking lot for more than 15 minutes, without my cooling fans on, the temp crawled up to about 175 once. I kicked on my fans and it immediately went back down to 165 again.

That is without me using the Pro Blend - 40 Below "Stops Overheating" that I swear by! I lived in Vegas for several years when the temp got above 110 almost every day in the summer time. And I have posted real numbers how that product has worked. I can dig up that old thread somewhere if someone is interested in the numbers. I've also done many experiments with Water Wetter and found out that it's total garbage! Complete waste of money!

Before I removed the AC condensor, I couldn't operate below 180 unless it was 30 degrees outside and I was cruising on the highway nice and steady. But now I can race and do several WOT runs in 80 degree heat and the gauge never gets above 165!

Bringing this up.

Do the stock fans bolts up to this radiator or will I need to purchase flex-o-light fans ??

the stock fans work. Although I've noticed the core is much thicker so SC'ed folks may run into issues with the piping crossing in front of the engine

i thought it was actually heavier. the core is way thicker than the stock ones, the stock one is very light to begin with, the endtanks are made of composite material and the core is made of aluminum already.. so the griffin is made of aluminum only but alot more massive..
