89 VG Turbo 5speed.
When I had it pig rich the worst I got in-town was 16mpg.
Now with the wideband helping me set it to 15.3-14.8 under light throttle/cruze with some romping of course it's 19-22mpg depending on foot weight.
I've done very little over the road testing I'm betting it's 26-28mpg or so.
Steve with the 91 white maxima got 29-30 highway going down to AZ!!!

not bad but im assuming that with any fi system your miles/gallon are going to drop cause of more fuel delivery.
That is the beauty of a turbo. I can drive normally and get stock gas mileage. I have only calculated my gas mileage once while turbo, it was mostly highway miles that tank but I got 23mph IIRC and that was with a few WOT runs to redline. (that was my old fuel set up with the FMU on low boost)
With my stock ECU, Z32 MAF, 550cc injector set up I know I get bad gas mileage but have yet to calculate it. I get much better mileage with theh JWT ECU.

I filled up yesterday and calculated 27.7 mpg, about 80% highway, 20% city. I'm supercharged, though, so I have continual belt and blower losses that turbos don't have. Still pretty good.
Last tank for me was 26.3 MPG. Supercharged, low boost, only a couple of WOT runs and about 80-90% highway.
yea i was wondering because when i use to have a civic boosted with a T3/04E, i actually got a LOT better gas millage compare to stock, it goes up to 39mpg. Mainly becasue the turbo is too big for the motor to spool up at low rpm, hence i got no boost on regular driving, an to pass on the freeway all i need to do is to open up the thottle a little more just enough to built a little boost to pass.
so i am wondering if anyone using a larger turbo actually got better mpg compare to stock. (i know it`s going to use up gas when i rape it :P)
can`t wait to get it boosted, it`s gonner be my very first turbo V6, shooting for 400+whp

I think one factor is that people with boosted engines are more likely to take better care of their engines. We change plugs, clean air filters and do preventative maintenance more often and more regularly than the average guy, and we have exhaust and intake sytems that enhance airflow. That translates to a more fuel efficient engine under normal driving.
I got 25mpg on the highway this summer. That was cruising around 75mph, AC on, and flooring it a couple times.

Ya i got 29 mpg across the midwest and then in the mountains i got 32. i was really happy. Lots of coasting. Also boost is fun in the mountains.Originally Posted by Boosted Maxima

Jeremy, not steve

i've had mine up to about 30 mpg in the highway running a very rich afr and with an exhaust leak.
reason why you tend to get better gas mileage when you go turbo from stock is because all of the parts you put on the engine make it more efficient all around.
even if you have a smaller, good flowing turbine and can make boost real quick you aren't going to make boost under partial throttle since you aren't burning as much gas.

you only deliver more fuel when under boost. no matter how much peak power you're making, you're only going to make a few horsepower when at partial throttle.not bad but im assuming that with any fi system your miles/gallon are going to drop cause of more fuel delivery.

unless the turbine housing is too small and is constantly choking the engine due to backpressure, you most likely won't see very much of a difference with turbine sizes.Mainly becasue the turbo is too big for the motor to spool up at low rpm, hence i got no boost on regular driving, an to pass on the freeway all i need to do is to open up the thottle a little more just enough to built a little boost to pass.

In mixed city/hwy driving, I get 22-23 mpg. On highway cruises, I've seen about 26mpg. It's actually about the same mileage I got stock, I have big 19"s, and big brakes that I'm sure hurt the mileage some.
Once during heavy dyno tuning, and then a bunch of full boost street runs for testing, I saw ~10 mpg. I got 155 miles on a full tank of gas.
It's amazing how much fuel 660cc injectors can flow.

Yeah, right now premium is $3.19 here in Atlanta, and it's going to hit probably $3.39 over the weekend when the gas tax is put back on (it was temporarily suspended for Sept. here in GA). It's getting too expensive to drive my car, or even the wife's turbo Integra.
Just been driving my Protege5 most days, at least it takes regular and gets about 27mpg. Slow, but it's cheap.

depends on how much you boost. On the highway with on boosting it a few times I get 25mpg. On the other hand when I gone down to ATL a year ago for Nopi Nationals I was showing off a lot at the show (blowing off a lot for spectators) I had to fill up only after 160 miles.

I hear ya. I'm glad I picked up my MR2 when I did. I get about 26 in town and up to 35 on the highway. Since I've had it I always though that kind of sucked, but comparing to other cars somewhat in its class it actually gets pretty good gas mileage.Originally Posted by Shadow

You'd think it would just do better weighing in at right under 2200 lbs and only making 138 hp.

How is the car since you got it back from battleground? I saw it in the yard when I went to interview themOriginally Posted by Shadow

On a road trip I get around 30 to 35 mpg depending on how fast I drive. Around town I try not to calculate! I judge milage on how many days I can go with out filling up. Boost is too much fun to think about transportation costs. Thats why I ride the Yamaha any day it doesn't rain.

We missed you this year at the Nats! I kept a look out but never saw you. The show was great, but the judging was complete bull ****! 5 out of the 6 maximas that won trophies were from Atlanta.Originally Posted by cardana24

I normaly got around 27 on the high way and about 6 to 8 at the track. It just depends on how you want to drive
