loud in tank walbro 5th gen?

hey i was wondering who here has an intank walbro 255 in their fifth gen, is yours loud, or is it just like that right after the install? because i just put mine in, and that thing can be heard when the engine isn't on (i didn't want to start the engine) it just keeps humming while the key is in the "on" position. i grinded off two tabs on the side of the pump where the nipple is and it fit better into the fuel pump assembly, but it still didn't go in far enough.

My walbro has a soft high pitch hum to it sometimes (sounds just like my buddy's stock GTP's fuel pump) but no effects on performance so far and thats only with the car running. BTW- I'm a 4th gen.

it may be making more noise if its mounted directly to the metal part of the sender unit, with no rubber insulation, that just one idea.

it's pretty much as loud as the windshield washer fluid pump, there is no metal that the pump is mounted to, the housing is mounted to the gas tank

question still is Does the pump stay on while in the on position? As far as I can tell, mine hums for 3 secs like Maxtuned said and goes off. Do you have a FP gauge? Does it show pressure in the line? Just try and start it, if no fuel is going to the motor the car won't start anyways...
Also how full is your tank? Its is near empty, if so maybe your just hearing the pump working since there no fuel to dampen the sound?

that's what i'm hoping is going on, i din't want to start it because my oil pan wasn't on the car. but i will start it later today, i have to cook some stuff up to bring to my gf's house because that's where i'll be for turkeyday. it's wierd, it stays on for as long as the key is in the on position. my FSM says it should be on for 1 second when the key is in the "on" position.

if you want to know if its actually pumping gas or not remove the hose from the line going to the motor and turn key to ignition no gas is suppose to pump at this time. fuel only starts to pump when the car is actually turning over or running never in just ignition mode.

i know for sure that it's pumping gas because i can feel and hear the gas go through the sard FPR and SS braided fuel lines. according to the FSM it should pump for about a second in the "on position" to prime the car up for starting.

so in any case the car will be flooded and it wont be able to start if its constanly running before ignition. maybe you reversed a wire or something or the fuel pump is malfunctioning.

either that or the fuel pump relay is stuck on. do i have to unplug the drop resistor for the fuel pump? because there's a drop resistor for the fuel pump on the 5th gen, i'm not sure about the 4th gen

thanks for all the input =D
