Cold Weather & Turbo Maxima ?

Well I have been running with various codes here and there from the 02 sensor codes to the P0171 bank1 lean. Over the Xmas weekend I went to visit my mom up north on the lake in Sandusky. My car stayed unused for about 24 hours and it is the coldest my car has seen since the turbo installed last March. (thanks to Jay25, his bro,Dixit,Bijan, and Big Greg for all their help :> )

So we jump in to head back to Columbus and I do not allow the car to warm up. (whooooops!) I get like 10 feet down the road in second gear and it feels like I am in 5th gear and not getting much acceleration. I look down and notice my check engine light is flashing...

I shut it down for a few minutes and start it up again. I let it warm up for like 5-10 minutes. Everything is back to normal. I have not had the check engine light flash again, although the check engine light is on again as usual. I am going to pull the codes and see what it has for me now.

Ever since, I must allow my car to warm up for 5-10 minutes, or it is all bogged and slow etc like the first time.

Only 2 things have changed, it is cold and I ran out of my Amsoil, so I have been putting in Syntec since it was on sale. I usually have to add a half quart of oil every week or 2. I have done this since the install, so thats not new, just a different oil. I am burning oil obvisously...

I have also had a massive vaccumm leak for awhile, if anything, I noticed I had better vaccuum since I took my car in to the tranny shop when it was stuck in gear November 12th. It came out of the shop with less of a leak hehe. I now idle around -6 psi instead of like -5 psi.

I hope ppl were able to read my LONG post!
Any help appreciated.

Hey Mike...

My rule of "thumb" is ALWAYS let the car warm up (turbo or NA) when it's extremely cold. CEL flashing means misfiring cylinders...but I dunno how operating temperature can affect spark.

I dont understand how your tranny issues relate to vaccum loss/gain either...weird.

Hope all is well, happy new year...

Thanks for the responses! I will be sure to let it warm up.

I feel better knowing others had a similar problemif not allowing it to warm up.

I am still using my a32 MAF, although I have two z32 MAF to use some day.

My next goal is to remove the manifold and troubleshoot my VAC loss.

I then want to get an PLX R500 or something and tune it.

Yeah if I dont let mine warm up it will just skip and bog out till it gets warm. But I have not tune it yet though.
370cc z32 and stock ECU.

Also cold weather and a turb maxima= no traction!
